| Evaluating Your College Student's First Semester — Winter Break Conversation Starters |
With Winter Break coming to a close very soon, it's important to have some conversations with your student before they head back for the spring semester!
Suzanne Shaffer, author for Collegiate Parent, says "After the dust from their homecoming settles, your parenting kicks in. You might discover your student dealing with one or more of these common first-year challenges: homesickness, depression, academic frustration, social struggles and financial difficulties. During winter break, you might also notice signs that college isn’t quite the dream your student had anticipated. Even if they're adjusting well, naturally you’re curious about their college experience thus far. These simple questions will open the door to your student sharing what’s been happening over the last few months. Although it may be difficult some weeks, we encourage you to set aside a certain time out of the week for you to hear your student's voice! Whether it's a phone call or facetime, savor the special moment with your student- give them some grace, and listen intently."
Click the link below to gain insight on what types of conversations you should be having at this time with your student. Remember to not bombard them at once- try to enjoy what is left of your time together, the spring semester will be here before you know it!

The UC Market is Getting a New Look! |
We are excited to announce that the newly renovated UC Market will feature Amazon Just Walk Out technology and is slated to open after Winter Break. This innovative shopping concept allows customers to enter the store, select items, and leave without traditional checkout.
Here’s how it works:
Entry: Customers use the Amazon app or a linked credit card to unlock the store.
Shopping: Inside, shoppers browse freely while sensors and cameras track the items they pick up or return.
Automatic Checkout: When they leave, the system charges their Amazon account for the items taken.
Convenience: This eliminates waiting in line, making shopping faster and more efficient.
During construction, the Market is temporarily relocating to Grind City. The temporary location at Grind City will be fully operational, and Dining Services is committed to ensuring that services remain uninterrupted during this period.
