UMKC to be Backbone for National STEM Initiative
UMKC is part of a team of universities who received a 10 million dollar National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. UMKC will work with Auburn and many other universities across the country to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to students with disabilities. UMKC's role in the grant is to host the portal and the website for the project as well as to lead the data collection.  Please click below to find out more about the project!

Syllabus Generator v. 3.0

We are pleased to share version 3.0 of UMKC's new syllabus generator.  While still a work-in-progress, SGv.3 pulls course information from the catalog and Pathway, academic calendar information and the most up-to-date required syllabus components.  Create, customize and download a syllabus template for each of your fall semester classes.
Sign in with your SSO and spend five minutes answering questions.  SGv.3 will produce a Word document that you can download and edit to your preferences and course assignments.

Clear Masks are Available for Faculty
UMKC campus facilities has purchased a number of clear masks which are designed to help students see your lips as you are speaking.  Here is an example of the mask from the company website:  https://www.theclearmask.com/product .  These masks may be picked up in the office in the General Services Building, second floor, Suite 101 .  Masks may also be ordered with an email to CFMTeam@umkc.edu. Departments may want to coordinate orders for masks via an administrative assistant or a fiscal officer.

The Art of Grantsmanship
The eight (8) week asynchronous course focuses on all aspects of grants from locating opportunities to theories of change to writing engaging proposals. Faculty will spend one hour each week reading articles, trying a variety of resources, and watching videos of experienced scholars here at UMKC and nationally.

Three optional one-hour, in-person meetings will be scheduled for faculty to network, process, and apply new insights to practice.

Faculty taking the microcredential will be invited to submit a four (4) page proposal for a spring 2022 course release or small grant to pursue applying for a summer or fall large, competitive grant. Because “large” is relative to the discipline, we are not defining large (i.e. NEA might be $150,000 and NIH might be $2,000,000).  Ten, course release/small grants (up to $4,000) will be awarded by November 1.

Apply by Monday, August 30.

Championing the Public Service Model of Higher Education
At UMKC, faculty produce community-engaged scholarship through reciprocal, mutually beneficial partnerships between the university’s knowledge centers – faculty, students, curriculum, and library – and community organizations, individuals, and resources. Both research and teaching activities fall under the umbrella term of community-engaged scholarship when the activities are grounded in the community and designed with members of the community. Aside from mastering the content area, engaged scholars are also deeply involved in local communities and learn from community partners.

During the fall semester, earn a microcredential and a stipend while you experience professional learning facilitated by UMKC faculty and Kansas City community leaders. Meetings take place every other Thursday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm (9/16; 9/30; 10/7; 10/21; 11/4; 11/18; 12/2).
