Personal Leave of Absence Policy & Deadline
October 25, 2021
Dear Student,
We are writing to inform you of updates to the Personal Leave of Absence Policy. Each semester, students may initiate a request for a personal leave of absence through SIS. This request should be submitted before the priority deadline of October 26 for any personal leave of absence planned for the upcoming Spring semester and by June 26 for any personal leave of absence planned for the upcoming Fall semester. If students do not submit their personal leave of absence request in SIS by these dates, a re-enrollment fee of $250 will be assessed when the student returns from the planned leave. However, we are waiving the fee for personal leaves taken for Spring 2022. The fee will be in effect for the Fall 2022 semester, with the priority deadline of June 26, 2022. We urge any student who already knows they will take a personal leave of absence for Spring 2022 to please submit their leave request in SIS as soon as possible. This policy update also applies to both Study Elsewhere and Study in Home Country of Record Leaves of Absence.
Students can still request any one of these three leaves of absence after the priority deadlines; however, if you know that you are planning to take the leave, submitting by this deadline is important to ensure your record is accurate. It should be noted that all typical housing, tuition, and fee refund policies still apply if you take a personal leave of absence after the first day of classes. Only the re-enrollment fee will be waived for the Spring 2022 semester.
