Bashaw Village Phase 2

Members of the Due West Ave, Goodpasture, and surrounding communities are invited to join us Saturday, May 13 10-11am at Sidekicks Cafe (yes it will be open for this meeting) for a look at the proposed Phase 2 of the Bashaw Village townhome project. Phase 1 Plans for the first 10 homes were well received and approved by the Community, the Planning dept, Planning Commission and Metro Council.  Bringing home ownership next to the I65 Bridge is a great way to promote pride in Madison.  I want to hear your feedback.

Station Blvd  - Come to the Design Meeting on Saturday, May 6, 2017. 10 am at the Madison Library
Oakwood Park - We continue to work on design plans to make sure that we are spending money on people and not cars.  I've asked for a look at moving the designated parking for the park to Oakwood with street beautification. This will allow more of the budget to be used on park amenities. New drawings will be provided to the community for feedback when they are made available.
Due West Towers - Each phase requiring rezoning will have community input. - They have been showing the office towers to many interested parties and may have a tenant on a 2-year lease for two of the floors in one of the buildings soon.
House of Brews on Old Hickory Blvd and Diamond Gusset Jeans on Cheron still planning but positive.
Homes on Cheron This approved development project to break ground in the Autumn.
Baxter Station This approved project on Curdwood Ave. will break ground soon - some storm water concerns caused a delay but have been resolved.
"Development for us, not to us" continues to be the mantra as weekly meetings with developers take place.
Shout out to D8's own Shane England of BE.vintagenashville and Resonate Church Nashville for noticing his D8 neighbor Rob Kearns (who plays for Sheryl Crow) representing #Madtown on Late Night with Stephen Colbert

BUDGET

The Metro Budget 2017/18 has been submitted by the Mayor to the Metro Council. We had our review presentation from the Finance Dept.  I will get my 600-page copy this week. We will be in Budget hearing reviews every evening from May 8 - 18 and again May 22-24 Hearing from all 48 Metro Departments.
The Mayor will Submit the CIB (Capital Improvement Budget) on May 15.  I will be looking for the Cheron Road and Ellington Parkway street light in this and the Spending Plan.
Our Street Lights and Disposal / Recycle services North D8 are in the Public Works budget. Once the budget is approved, the RFP will go out for disposal contractors.

LIGHT RAIL & TRO (Transit Oriented Development)

Planning and Designing begins on Gallatin Road/ Gallatin Pike
From January through March, MTA bus passengers took 274,569 trips on the Gallatin Pike corridor.
"Bland said that light rail would likely run down the middle of Gallatin Pike on a platform, rather than the sides, giving pedestrians an easier ability to cross the street."  - Read the Tennessean
  • Rep Dickerson and Rep. Jernigan's Bill, now awaiting Gov. Haslam's signature is a major piece of the puzzle for Gallatin Pike and Dickerson Pike transit-oriented development. Click here and read the Summary
Although the rates need to be accepted by the State and confirmed by the Council, it's clear that #MadtownTN D8 joining the USD was the smart long term move. Thank you to the community for working through the pros and cons and embracing the decision. Services will begin in 2018. Details as available will be mailed to all affected.
Thank you, The Home Depot and Rebuilding Together Nashville for your hard work at D8's own Patriot Place - Madison. And Congratulations Nossi College of Art Grads! D8 is Proud of you!

Add your Voice to the #PikesProject

A  THRIVE award by the Metro Nashville Arts Commission in November 2016. In January a six-month campaign was kicked off to transform the Pikes Project with WPLN into a community art project involving our East Nashville/Madison neighbors in an Instagram campaign that allows us all to share our own particular takes on the pikes that define this neighborhood.   After two months the Instagram account currently boasts nearly 400 followers, and #pikesproject has been tagged nearly 300 times. The project has also been featured in The Contributor and The East Nashvillian magazine.

SAVE THE DATE:
We will be hosting a pikes-centric art exhibition at the Red Arrow gallery on Gallatin Pike. The show will open on the evening of May 20.

Last Word

Joan and I were both happy to see Mayor Megan Barry at the Nashville LGBT Chamber luncheon.  I was a Finalist for the Leadership in the Arts Award.
I support the Mayor's budget that will increase funding to the Grant Programming up from  $185k of the $300k last year to $275k of the $500k this year.
