Associate Professor Teri Finneman and co-author Nick Mathews launched their book, "Reviving Rural News," Thursday night in Newton, Kansas.
Professor Yvonnes Chen
was a panelist, along with Professor Ray Pence, associate teaching professor of American studies, in Honors Program's Living in Color event on February 12. They engaged in a conversation with students and staff about experiencing failure and managing expectations in college and one’s professional life. Living in Color, one of the community programming in Honors Program, creates a welcoming community for students, staff members, and faculty members of color to center their stories, receive support, and learn about resources.
A research paper authored by Muhammad Ittefaq (j’22, assistant professor at James Madison University) and Professor Hyunjin Seo has been accepted for publication in journal Health Communication
. The paper, “Highlighting Heroes and Ignoring Villains: Visual Framing of Polio and Polio Vaccine in Newspapers,” examines how leading newspapers in Pakistan used images and visual framing in covering issues related to polio and polio vaccination from 2010 to 2022.
On February 16, Professor Yvonnes Chen presented her community-engaged project "Communities Organizing to Promote Equity
" to graduate students at the University of Utah under the invitation of Professor Crystal Lumpkins. Her presentation focused on how communication strategies enhance bidirectional interactions, facilitating the planning and sustaining phases of community-academic partnerships. Strategically creating owned and paid media content, monitoring earned media, reviewing analytics, and providing capacity building trainings can build and maintain relationships with diverse community partners. She presented along with Jeffrey Field, communications coordinator in the Department of Population Health and Family Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
