Many More New PDF Downloadable Arrangements
June's New Release Pages feature another collection of both brand new and historic jazz arrangements.
We are very pleased to be among the first to offer the 2023 New Issues from Paul Baker's Baker's Jazz & More. Paul's original, creative arrangements have long been favored by school jazz band directors and also provide fine choices for your concerts as well. This new batch has five from Paul and one from Tyler Mire. Please click here to view them all.
Our latest Jazz Lines Publications releases features one from one of our favorites, Benny Carter, Sunset Glow. Written as a part of his Kansas City Suite, this lovely ballad serves as a multi-faceted feature. The melody is a solo showcase for trombone, while the sax section gets their moment to shine as an ensemble. This publication was prepared using a score and set of parts that Benny wrote in the 1980s or '90s but is the same arrangement that was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra in 1960 with the exception of an added 4th trombone part.
The John Kirby Sextet is one of the more unique and interesting-and sadly brief-success stories of the swing era. They eventually came to be referred to as "chamber jazz," due to their classical influences and the tremendous interplay between the musicians. We have two great new arrangements that illustrate this, Beethoven Riffs On and Move Over. Kirby's appreciation of classical music should mean it is no surprise that his famous sextet often performed jazz versions of famous classical themes, such as shown in Beethoven Riffs On. Move Over is from the group's trumpeter/arranger Charlie Shavers and is a delightfully riffing melody that follows a variation of the classic I Got Rhythm chord progression while checking all the boxes of the classic John Kirby Sextet sound.
Finally, we have another release from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Dave Wolpe's fine vocal arrangement of I'll Be Home for Christmas. This publication was prepared using the original parts that were used during the 1991 recording session - this is not a transcription.
LATE ARRIVALS! We just published Benny Carter's Ol' Man River this morning. A very difficult, challenging arrangement, this is a unique take on this nearly century-old standard. Also new today is Peg o' My Heart, written in 1961 by Deane Kincaide for the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Ray McKinley. We also just added to our site the Lush Life Music transcription of one of Perez Prado's best-known tunes, Guaglione, a medium easy Latin chart.
