Here we are in our 5th week of class—6th for our FYS seminars—and looking forward to the weekend. Great to see everyone out for the September 21 Sweet Surprise celebration, where a new record was set (according to the anonymous note left on my desk—526 Pirates were served). And never mind the heat, just keep repeating it’s officially fall.
Loved taking my morning stroll today with students accompanied by Ernest, my new rescue one-year-old American bulldog. What Ernest lacks in training she makes up for with enthusiasm. Miss Twinkles did not accompany our group as she is saving her energy for our women’s soccer team when they play against Austin College this evening at 7:00 p.m. I look forward to seeing you there! You can cheer on Men’s Soccer as they take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
There’s no better way to get into the Pirate spirit than by attending the Theatre Department’s jolly high seas musical, How I Became a Pirate. See how a normal day at the beach turns into an adventure with some singing and dancing pirates. The first performance is tonight, Friday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jones Theater, with more performances Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and again on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for Southwestern students, faculty, and staff!
Southwestern Football returns home on Saturday, Sept. 24, to take on McMurry at Bernard Birkelbach Field, at 6 p.m. Tailgating is open at 3 p.m. and the team parade through the tailgating area will be at 4 p.m. The team will also host a faculty/staff appreciation on the field at 5:30 p.m. Lots happening and we are on the verge of Halloween, one of my favorite holidays.
Go Pirates!
