Hello Jumbos,
This week, we're introducing academic life at Tufts and taking you on a tour of all your support systems and resources.

Academics: Getting Started

There are many different fields of study at Tufts in the School of Engineering and the School of Arts and Sciences, which also includes the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (or SMFA at Tufts). What's the best way to get your bearings?
We're glad you asked! We've created an Academics page just for incoming students to help you with your first steps:
  • On June 6, Academic Essentials will be available for all degree programs through your New Student Checklist. Check your Tufts email for your invitation to join Canvas.
  • Academic Essentials will be your guide through academic orientation at Tufts:
    • Meet your advising team
    • Learn about degree programs and policies
    • Connect with faculty and academic departments
    • Start building your Fall 2022 schedule
  • There will be a variety of information sessions, such as pre-health advising, StAAR Center resources, study abroad overview, tips for pursuing math courses, Liberal Arts faculty panels, and guidance on language assessments, offered during the summer term; details will be advertised in Academic Essentials, so be sure to monitor your Canvas announcements regularly.
  • You can also browse Requirements for Graduation on our Academic Advising web pages: Liberal Arts BA/BS, Liberal Arts BFA, or Engineering.

Academic Advice and Support

Now that you're a Jumbo, you have a bunch of people and departments that are ready to help you make progress towards your degree.
Academic Advising
All Jumbos have a team of advisors, including a special team for BFA students on the Fenway campus:
Transfer students will receive additional information about their advising schedule. Combined Degree and BFA advising for first-year and transfer students begins July 11, and students should make appointments only after completing all of their Academic Essentials modules. Access to the appointment calendar will be available on June 13.
StAAR Center
The Student Accessibility and Academic Resource (StAAR) Center supports your learning beyond the classroom by offering free writing support, tutoring, academic coaching, and support for students with disabilities. Their programs promote engaged, collaborative learning by building on your strengths while addressing your concerns and questions.

Managing Your Health and Wellness as a Student at Tufts Webinar

On Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. EDT, attendees will learn about the services offered at Health Service and the Counseling Center. You will also hear about our immunization and pre-entrance health requirements. Finally, we will review information about Tufts student health insurance requirements.

StAAR Center Accessibility Services Overview for Students With Disabilities

Tuesday, June 14, 7 p.m. EDT
This workshop is aimed at families of students with disabilities who want to talk through different accommodations that we offer at Tufts, learn what the process is to request accommodations, and chat through strategies for helping their student register and get what they need. Both families and students are welcome to attend.
