GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS NIGHT AT THE MOVIES WITH 'WAR DOGS' SCREENING
An interview with Guy Lawson, author of Arms and the Dudes, the true story of two Miami stoners who won a $300 million contract with the DOD to supply arms to the Afghan military. The interview will be followed by a screening of "War Dogs," the movie based on the book. This event is co-sponsored by SMPA.

The 2017 Institute for Documentary Filmmaking production “Life In Strides” won Best Student Short Film at the Chesapeake Film Festival.
Debbie Cenziper's upcoming book “CITIZEN 865,” the story of how a group of historians-turned-investigators at the Department of Justice pursued one of the last great secrets of the Third Reich, was announced by Publisher's Weekly.
David Karpf spoke with “NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt’’ and Newsy about how Russia used Facebook to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Karpf was quoted by The Guardian in “Russia's RT reveals Twitter's pitch to sell millions of dollars in 2016 election ads’’ and CBC News (Canada) in “Not going to be a cakewalk': Social media sites face hurdles curbing foreign political ads.
Nina Seavey’s latest project, “The Messengers,” won Best Documentary Feature at the Golden Gate International Film Festival. Seavey produced the film with director, Lucian Perkins. Perkins is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and “The Messengers” is his debut feature.
Frank Sesno was quoted by The Associated Press in “Laura Ingraham calling! Trump returns to favorite venue.’’
Janet Steele moderated three sessions at the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, including a one-on-one with Michael Vatikiotis, the former editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review and author of "Blood and Silk." Her panel, "Where We Get Our News," featured Al-Jazeera journalist Step Vaessen and Bloomberg Views editor Nisid Hajari. A third session, "Going Home Again" was a conversation with Iranian writer Shokoofeh Azar, SMPA alumnus Ahmad Fuadi and MTV World Rebel Music creator Nusrat Durrani. Steele was also interviewed by People's Daily (China) for an article on the changing global image of the U.S.
