Keishanna Jackson Offers Thoughtful Assistance
Problem solving is a critical part of creating an exceptional customer experience. Keishanna Jackson with Alamo Rent a Car knows this and puts it into practice daily.
Recently, a customer flew into PDX to be with her husband who was unexpectedly hospitalized in Oregon. The customer did not have a car reserved and spent over an hour trying to find a rental. Keishanna attempted to rent the customer a car with Alamo, however the customer needed to return the vehicle to a location that Alamo didn't serve. Keishanna was gracious enough to check the rates of other brands and found a company that served the drop-off location.
The customer was relieved to be on her way and grateful for the extra time and care. Keishanna's manager nominated her for a customer service award and added, "Thank you to Keishanna for her speedy and thoughtful service to the customer, regardless of brand."
Keishanna was honored at the PDX People Customer Service Awards, where we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. Masks Still Required Inside PDX
We know there's been changing news about recommended safety protocols for mask-wearing. The TSA just extended their face mask directive through Monday, April 18, requiring people to wear a face covering on airport property.
This means PDX indoor rules are unchanged: Masks must be worn at all U.S. airports, on airplanes and on other forms of public transportation. Refusal to wear a mask in the airport violates federal law and may result in penalties or removal.
This means that if you're working inside, riding the shuttle bus or just passing through the terminal, you must wear a mask. While you're no longer required to wear a mask outside, you are empowered to do so if you wish. Per the CDC and TSA, it is recommended that people who are not fully vaccinated wear a mask to protect themselves and others and be aware of physical distance where possible.
As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to follow the recommendations from our public health partners, including the Oregon Health Authority, and will keep you posted as guidance continues to evolve. Watch for updates in this newsletter and encourage co-workers to subscribe now if they haven't already.
Be AWARE and You Could Win a $50 Visa Gift Card
You already know how to be an AWARE badgeholder – now you have the chance to win $50 just by helping keep PDX safe and secure.
Starting Tuesday, March 15, Global Security and Aviation Security teams will be at PDX conducting challenge plays. If you pass one of these plays, you’ll be entered in a drawing for $50 Visa gift card.
Challenge plays might look like someone in a restricted area without a clearly displayed badge or someone piggybacking through a secure door. How do you pass a play? Challenge them: Approach the individual and ask to see their badge. Challenging is vital because it identifies people who are somewhere they're not supposed to be.
The first drawing is in June and three winners will be selected. After that, raffles will be held quarterly in September and December. Do your part to maintain a safe environment at PDX and you could be both an AWARE badgeholder and a lucky winner!

Alaska Airlines Launches New Oregon Academy to Help Address Pilot Shortage
Alaska Airlines is prepared to spend millions of dollars to help students attend an Oregon flight school, get their commercial pilot licenses and then get them flying planes for Horizon Air, its regional sister carrier. The Seattle-based air group is partnering with the Hillsboro Aero Academy to launch the flight school program, which will offer training in either Hillsboro or Redmond. The airline will offer low-interest flight school loans, cover the cost of a commercial pilot license, then give the new pilots a job upon completing the program. Applications for spots in the new flight academy are now open and the airlines are hoping that the first cohort of prospective pilots will begin training April 1.
PDX in Pictures
Last week, Governor Kate Brown and members of Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Senator Jeff Merkley’s offices had a tour of the new PDX roof with leaders from the Port of Portland and Hoffman Skanska, as well as representatives from the Portland Business Alliance, Business Oregon, Oregon Business & Industry, Oregon Department of Transportation and the Federal Reserve.
After seeing the full nine-acre roof with its arched 80-foot-long ribs made out of glue-laminated (glulam) wood, the group had only one thing to say: "The future is looking up." Read more about this feat of engineering on the PDX Next website.
