Note from our Office
Dear Calumet County 4-H,
This year's Calumet County fair is going to look a little different for me, as I will not be there as your 4-H Educator. Even though I may not be able to be there to see all of your project work come to fruitition at this year's fair, I am excited to hear how it goes for every single one of you! To me, the fair is an opportunity to see all of the hard work that our members have put into their project learning by showcasing the different exhibits and animals they enter. This is a great way for you to celebrate all of you have learned and what you've accomplished, along with having fun and making memories.
I encourage all members to reflect on their projects to help prepare you for exhibiting at this year’s county fair. Some things to consider as you take the next month or so to prepare could include the following:
What were your goals for your project this year? Did you face any challenges? How did you overcome those challenges? What did you learn with this project? How can you take what you learned in your project and apply it to your daily life? What steps did you take to start and complete your exhibit? Are there any changes you would make for your project next year?
As always, please feel free to reach out to our office with any questions or concerns. I am on maternity leave until Monday, October 28th, so the best person to reach out to is 4-H Program Assistant, Lori Weber, at lori.weber@calumetcounty.org.
Sincerely,
Carlea Liermann

Fair InformationThings to Know Before Coming to Advance Judging Day - August 24
Hopefully, you kept a copy or list of the items you listed on your Fair Entry Form. Use this list to help you remember what items you planned to bring.
Read the Junior Class Fairbook exhibiting guidelines for each department that you are exhibiting in for information on the date and time of judging, exhibit size requirements, and possible changes to hanger and displaying requirements.
Judging will run from 9:00am - 2:00pm, with staggered half hour lunch breaks for judges. You can come at any time during the day, but know that the process will take time (30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the number of exhibits).
We strongly encourage families to make sure they arrive by 1:00pm, as judging ends at 2:00pm. Exhibitors must be in their final line by 2:00pm. Late exhibits will not be judged face-to-face and may be marked down one or more placings.
How to Enter Exhibits Step 1 - Pick up your exhibitor’s packet at the Fair Secretary’s Office. Packets will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, August 21, from 3:00-7:00pm or on Saturday, August 24, beginning at 8:30am. This envelope includes your fair pass, a computerized list of projects that have been entered, and your entry tags.
Step 2 - Attach tags to your individual projects. This can be done at home or in the Stanelle Building. (Make sure to use the correct tag for each project) String will also be provided if you cannot place a tag directly onto your project. The tags must be attached to the project with tape, string, staples, rubber bands, etc. Please bring your own supplies if attaching at the Fairgrounds.
Step 3 - After all tags are attached, find the appropriate areas to have your projects judged.

Looking for VolunteersOlder youth and adult volunteers are needed to record judging results and help display exhibits. Volunteer shifts are 8:45am - 11:45am, 11:30am - 2:30pm or all day (8:45am - 2:30pm) Both of these roles are a lot of fun! Please contact Tami Gasch if you are interested in volunteering.

Junior Face-to-Face Judging
This type of judging allows for each exhibit to be judged on it own merit, rather than compared with other exhibits in the same class. Exhibitors bring their exhibits to the judge and talk to the judge about them.
General Face-to-Face Questions You May Be Asked: What do you like most/least about your project? What have you learned in doing this project? What would you like to learn more about in the future, related to this project? Where did you get the idea for this project? Who helped you? What was the easiest/most challenging part of making this exhibit? What would you do differently if you made the project again?
(Look at page 2 of the handbook for schedule)

4-H Foods Auction
The 4-H Foods Auction will be Friday, August 30, at 5:00 pm in the Family Entertainment Tent. Only Junior Foods pies, decorated cakes, and cupcakes will be sold during the live food auction. For an exhibitor to receive 75% of their sale proceeds, they must be present to showcase their entries at the auction, or identify your replacement if you have a schedule conflict. Exhibitors are strongly encouraged to recruit buyers and send thank-you cards to the buyer of their entry. All other perishable Junior Foods items will be displayed on a table for buyers to purchase via free will donation, much like a bake sale.
Set-up for the Foods Auction will start between 3:30-4pm. Those who help set up will get to be in line first to sell their items.

4-H Re-Enrollment
If you have not already registered with the 4-H Online 2.0 system, please do so at http://wi.4honline.com. Re-enrollment is requested by October 31st. Existing members need to be re-enrolled by December 31st so that they are eligible to enter in Jr. Class at the Calumet County Fair. To ensure you keep receiving correspondence and the monthly newsletter, we recommend that you enroll by October 31st.
Any youth or Club Leader who is enrolled or re-enrolled by the end of October will receive this shirt for free from the 4-H office. Our office will send out an email to coordinate getting the shirt to you once you are re-enrolled.
