Efigenia Perez Santos Speaks Up for Great Customer Service
Efigenia Perez Santos (she/her) with Relay Resources was nominated by Deborah with the PDX Volunteer Information Program:
"Efigenia helped communicate with a Spanish-speaking couple and their young child. The family was from Venezuela and trying to get to Vancouver, Canada, to live with family. Unfortunately, they were stuck at PDX – they spent the night in the airport and had no food, no money and no idea how to get to their destination.
Efigenia went out of her way to help them get food and followed up to ensure they had assistance to reach their destination. Angel with ABM and Danny Gilliland, Port of Portland airport operations specialist, worked to get the family on a flight.
In the several times that I have seen Efigenia working at PDX, she is always friendly, compassionate, respectful and helpful. PDX is lucky to have such a kind, caring janitor."

Spring Break Travel Takes Off at PDX

It’s going to be busy at PDX during the peak spring travel period, starting today through Friday, April 5. This period covers both Oregon and Washington school spring breaks.
Visitors who haven't flown in a while will see quite a few changes at the airport. You can continue providing top-notch service by assisting passengers as they make their way through PDX. Help them choose the right checkpoint, find their way through the bypasses, locate the transportation plaza, and give them a heads up that some routes will take longer to walk.
Many passengers will be traveling with their families, so be prepared to help guide them to family-friendly spots including the PDX play area on Concourse E, the kids play area at the end of Concourse C, the Hollywood Theatre on Concourse C and the sensory room on Concourse D, as well as other family-friendly amenities like our lactation rooms and all-user restrooms.

Bambuza Takes Off at New Airport Locations
You’ve probably stopped at Bambuza on Concourse C for a fantastic lunch, but did you know the company started out as a farmer's market stand?
When Katherine Lam and her husband Daniel Nguyen took over the family business, they had no idea how to operate at an airport. Fast forward to a year from now and, thanks in part to their experience at PDX, Bambuza Hospitality Group will have four new locations in two new airports, bringing its total footprint to 16 restaurants and retail stores.
“We just celebrated 20 years,” Katherine shared. “Truly how we got where we are today is the local community. I didn’t do it by myself. The Port of Portland, the contractor and our vendor helped. Airports came as a new opportunity for us and allow us to provide more jobs.”

If you’ve been at PDX for any length of time, you've probably seen Lowell Jackson Sr...and talked to him, too.
For the past eight years, the owner of Jackson Shine Co. has been shining shoes and chatting up people at his stand. So many visitors and airport employees stop by to say hello that Lowell's youngest son, Honor, calls him the "unofficial mayor of the airport."
It’s true: A lot of conversation happens around those chairs, and maybe you wondered what stories are being shared. If you check out the Jackson Shine Co. YouTube channel, you can hear everything from a film teacher talking about Cannes entries shot solely on an iPhone to airline pilots chatting about their families – all set to the soothing sounds of an expert shoeshine.
