Hello everyone! My name is Hakim Sanfo, and I am a current senior studying Science-Business. I am from Alexandria, Virginia, but I moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland, at the end of high school (shoutout to the DMV). I played football here as a tight end (#TEU), and I am also involved in young life while working as a tutor for TutorND! When I lived on campus, I was in Morrissey Hall, and my favorite place on campus is the grotto.
I am eternally grateful for Professor Kelley Young and the Galvin Scholars Program. Coming in as a first-year student, I found the small classes and attentive help from professors such as Kathryn Mulholland to be all the difference in my college career. I have made numerous friends throughout the programs who I have grown together with and learned a lot from. Galvin has opened multiple doors for me, such as providing funding to research testing efficient techniques to adsorb copper (II) chloride using nanostructured membranes and allowing me to spend time at the Henry Ford Cancer Institute with Dr. Eleanor Walker (the goat).
For all my underclassmen, take advantage of the opportunities Galvin offers and utilize all the tools they have. Always feel free to reach out. Good luck, and go Irish!

NEW - AmeriCorps GAP Year |
I am currently recruiting future members for the AmeriCorps/National Health Corps (NHC) Pittsburgh year of service that I am currently participating in for my gap year. I have had a tremendous experience so far, and I think the mission of Notre Dame and the Compassionate Care in Medicine minor parallels the values of the NHC program. I organized a Notre Dame-specific virtual presentation to share more information and answer any questions. There is general information (link to sign-up above) about the NHC program in addition to links below to our website, the application, and a sign-up for a general information session on March 19th.
At NHC, we believe in fostering healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits, and services, while developing tomorrow’s health leaders. We are fortunate to serve with an organization that sees value in community and the impact we can make by investing our time. All NHC Public Health Leadership Corps members complete 1,700 hours of service during a 42-46 week term in one of NHC's program locations. Each member is matched with an organization in the community, called a “host site,” where they will complete most of their service.
National Health Corps members are dedicated, dynamic, hard-working people with different backgrounds and experiences who are ready to commit nearly a year of their lives to service. Members also earn service hours for participating in committees, other individual or group volunteer opportunities, training, professional development activities, and more!
