Javiette Samuel, director of community engagement and outreach, recently participated in the Introduction Knoxville (IK) spring class of 2018. IK provides professionals new to the area and those with new positions of greater responsibility a program to quickly learn more about our community.

2018 Engagement and Outreach Mini Grants Awarded

The Office of Community Engagement and Outreach awarded mini grants for projects and activities that develop, support, and/or expand engagement and outreach. Proposals were limited to $1,000 and could be submitted by individuals and teams. Read about the funded projects.

Darby Receives Faculty Travel Award for Engagement Conference

OCEO awarded a travel grant to Erin Darby, assistant professor of religious studies, to present a session titled, “To Go Boldly: Defining Student Learning Outcomes for Undergraduate Research Experiences in International Settings,” at the 2018 Engagement Scholarship Consortium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

OCEO Collaborates With Teaching and Learning Innovation Summer Institute

Kelly Ellenburg, director of service learning, and Javiette Samuel, director of OCEO, co-facilitated service learning breakout sessions during the Teaching & Learning Innovation Summer Institute (TLISI) in May. TLISI offers the opportunity to learn to incorporate experiential learning or evidence-based teaching strategies into coursework.

  • UEDA Excellence Awards
    University Economic Development Association Excellence Awards recognize cutting-edge projects and initiatives that promote economic development and engagement. Nominate a project or initiative by June 15.
  • International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame Nominations 
    Nominations are open for the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on November 10, 2018, in New Orleans. Nominations are due July 8. Self nominations are welcomed. Learn more here. 
  • International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement Annual Conference
    The IARSLCE Conference will be held July 18–20 in New Orleans. Registration is still open.
