Manworren Selected as FNINR Ambassador
|
|
|
Renee Manworren, PhD Program Director and Professor, Graduate Nursing has been selected as a Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) Ambassador.
This unique advocacy program began in 2014 and has grown to include over 50 Ambassadors. Manworren is among the program’s seventh cohort of 21 nurse scientists joining the ranks of others currently filling this role.
Manworren and her fellow Ambassadors will focus specifically on educating Congressional leaders as to the high-impact, cost-effective interventions and quality-of-life enhancements that emanate from nursing science. Ultimately, the goal of FNINR’s ambassador program is to increase research funding for continued scientific breakthroughs and training of scientists made possible by the National Institute of Nursing Research.

In June, Kyrah Brown, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, attended the inaugural meeting for the HRSA Maternal Health Research Collaborative for Minority Serving Institutions (MH-RC-MSI) at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Brown met with attendees to identify strategies for building student training and research capacity.
Additionally, one of Dr. Brown's students, Rachel Donison, is participating in the Collaborative’s summer research institute.

On July 11, CONHI held a community retreat for faculty and staff in the Maverick Activities Center. The event featured a session with keynote speaker Dr. Steve Bedwell, MD and stand-up Comedian.
Additionally, all in attendance were provided with breakfast and lunch, and participated in team-building exercises and breakout sessions focused on themes such as "Cultivating an Environment of Trust" and "Project Management 101".

Meredith Decker, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, has been selected as the winner of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association (SWATA) Christine M. Bonci Award for Excellence in Athletic Training Scholarship.
This award recognizes SWATA member who has actively impacted athletic training practice, education, or scholarship through active Athletic Training Scholarship via a publication or a significant professional presentation.
