PDX People Honored at Customer Service Awards
Every day at PDX, thousands of interactions unfold across concourses, shops, and parking garages. A few become moments people remember long after their journey ends.
PDX People have the ability to turn ordinary encounters into extraordinary acts of care. From offering calm during moments of panic to stepping in during emergencies, solving unexpected travel challenges, or simply noticing when someone needs help before they ask, airport employees demonstrate what it means to put people first.
To recognize actions that truly stand out as extraordinary and support our core values, we host the PDX People customer service awards each quarter. Read about the employees we recognized for being friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful from January through March 2026
Want to learn more about PDX People recognition? Check out the recognition programs on the PDX People website. You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

Be Knowledgeable: Keeping PDX Safe and Secure
Ensuring PDX is safe and secure is part of our daily work. Following a few simple security steps helps protect the airport, our co-workers, and the traveling public.
Keep these responsibilities top of mind:
Always Display Your Security Badge: Wear your badge above the waist on your outermost garment. This ensures other PDX employees will be able to recognize you and verify you’re permitted to be in the area.
Close the Door: When entering or exiting any restricted area, always ensure the door is fully closed behind you. This prevents unauthorized access and keeps sensitive areas protected.
No Piggybacking: Allowing someone to follow you through secure doors or checkpoints without proper authorization is called "piggybacking." Always ensure that each individual swipes in with their own credentials.
Follow Badge Access Rules: PDX badges are strictly for business use only. Sterile area access is allowed two hours before and two hours after your scheduled work shift. Using your badge on your day off is prohibited.
Question Suspicious Activity: If you notice something out of the ordinary – like someone in a restricted area without a badge – speak up. If you see someone without a visible badge in a restricted area, you are required to challenge them. Also, you must cooperate with anyone who challenges you by showing your badge. If they refuse your challenge, or don’t have a valid badge, contact the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4000. You can also call the Communications Center if you feel unsafe approaching someone.
Report It – It Might Be Part of a Bigger Picture: Even small concerns could be part of a bigger issue. Reporting helps keep PDX secure, so contact the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4000.
PDX Celebrates Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026
At our 2026 Bring Your Child to Work Day event, we took a moment to ask PDX kids: "What does your parent do here?" Their answers included some rather unexpected jobs – hacker, anyone? – and some that really captured the airport spirit of service. Throwing bags, calling numbers, working with dogs, waving light sticks, and handing out chocolates? All in a day's work for these PDX People. P.S. AIRPLANE is a perfectly correct answer.
How A-May-zing, It's Time for the Spring Cleanup
It's the event you've all bin waiting for – the spring cleanup!
On Wednesday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to the loading dock area near C4, and bring any dry, non-hazardous items, including electronics and appliances. You can also stop by and see if you want anything. Reusable items will be donated; the rest will be recycled. Not Accepted: Hazardous materials, tires, batteries, lightbulbs, and liquids.
This is a free event sponsored by the Port of Portland for all airport businesses. Please hold on to your items until the event date (unless time sensitive). Questions? E-mail lesswaste@portofportland.com or call 503-415-6265.
America ByDESIGN™ Highlights PDX's Feeling of a Walk in the Forest
For Season 5, Episode 8, of America ByDESIGN™, executive producer Mike Chapman spoke with the Port of Portland's Vince Granato and ZGF Architect's Sharron van der Meulen and Gene Sandoval about the biophilic-inspired expansion of PDX, which celebrates the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The undulating 9-acre mass timber roof highlights the history and the future of Oregon’s forest product innovation with wood all sourced from within a 300-mile radius of the airport, including from small family-owned forests, local tribes, and non-profits practicing sustainable forestry. Biophilic design is applied throughout the terminal with access to natural light and touches of greenery. Inspired by urban planning strategies, the terminal also houses smaller scale architecture that recreates Portland’s unique, walkable sense of scale to evoke a stroll through our vibrant neighborhoods.
PDX in Pictures
Construction disruptions, route changes, a new roof, and some classic carpet – you've been here through so much and have consistently showed up for travelers, for each other, and for this place. To celebrate this milestone moment, airport employees gathered at Loyal Legion to collectively say, "We Made it, PDX!" and enjoy snacks, swag, and raffle prizes.
You all said it best using just one word. Through every construction phase and every “almost there” moment, you kept us feeling AMAZING. It’s been a long road, and there's still more ahead, but the reason this airport feels so special is simple: The PDX People who make it.
