Hello everyone! My name is Nawal Jaffary, and I am currently a first-year student pursuing a major in Neuroscience and Behaviors (NSBH) within the College of Science. As a pre-med track enthusiast, I am delighted to share my journey with you.
Born in New York with roots in Pakistan, I currently live in Cavanaugh Hall on campus! (Best dorm on campus!) In addition to Neuroscience, I am proud to be a part of the Galvin Scholars Program, which is an enriching academic initiative that has provided me with valuable resources and insights. Mary E. Galvin Scholars Program is offered to admitted science and engineering first years. The program's small-sized classrooms, led by exceptional professors, have significantly contributed to my freshman year experience!
Alongside my interest in science, I am also enthusiastic about taking a minor in business studies or minors related to investing to learn more about marketing, investment and internships. During the recent winter break, as the new year began, I had the privilege of participating in the Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing (NDIGI) career trek in San Francisco,CA, alongside 14 selected students. We had the opportunity to meet leading professionals and head/CEOs of one of America’s biggest investment/finance banks and firms, which includes Bank of America, Eclipse Venture, a16z, Altimeter and CenterView Partner firms. This experience proved valuable as I gained insights into potential career paths, opportunities, aligning with my interest in
pursuing a minor in business or investment and I also made some new friends! My ambition to broaden my horizons also extends to the realm of research, and I have applied to various opportunities, including positions in the different research firms focusing on my passion for neuroscience.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I am also a part of a few extracurricular activities on campus. I am a member of the Neuroscience Club, further cultivating my interest in the field. Beyond the science realm, I am part of the Transformational Leadership program, which has provided me with valuable resources during my first semester. My involvement also extends to various clubs, including the Muslim Student Association (MSA) and the Asian American Association (AAA). These organizations do not only relate to me and my origin, but they also contribute to my holistic development, allowing me to connect with diverse perspectives and experiences.
In pursuit of my long-term goal, I aspire to attend medical school after completing my undergraduate studies, with the ultimate aim of becoming a Neurosurgeon. Notre Dame has proven to be an exceptional starting point for my independent and professional journey, and the Galvin Scholars Program has been a valuable addition to my academic pursuits. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as I continue to grow and thrive at Notre Dame.
