A Young Rabbit’s Fable: How the Rabbit Came to Love the Stream

Out where the city limits meet the country, there was a young rabbit who lived by a stream. It was a nice stream. It was clean and the water flowed around the moss and the rocks. The rabbit would often play games with her friends on the logs that crossed that stream. With quick hops and long leaps so as not to touch the water, she was a master of this game. While most of her playmates would fall off the log, get very wet and splash around, she would never fall in. She became known as queen of the logs. After a long day of play, all of her friends would go down to the stream for a long drink but not her. She prided herself on not drinking and willed herself to not be thirsty even though she often was. After awhile, she really just had no desire to drink. She preferred munching on sweet carrots instead. After all she could get a little moisture from a carrot and who needed to drink that silly water anyway.

One day, while the sun shone bright and hot and she had played a good game of chase, she opted for a rest. Just as she was settling in, she felt a terrible urge to poop. It was quite sudden and she was surprised because she hardly ever went to the bathroom in this manner. She tried and tried to go and she strained mightily. Finally hard little round pellets popped out but only a few. She knew there must be more for her belly puffed out and her stomach felt tight and bloated. She asked her friends, did they have this problem? It was rather embarrassing to talk about but she was getting increasingly uncomfortable. The other rabbits looked at each other and shook their heads, no. So why did she have this problem she thought? They ate the same food. They played the same games. They raided the same gardens. What was it that they did differently, that she did not do? She thought and thought. Finally she realized that she was the only one who had not fallen in the water, gotten very wet and…taken a drink from the stream. So that’s it, she thought. Water. I need water!

Down to the stream she went taking a long drink. This actually tasted quite good, she mused. Suddenly, she sat up and felt her belly begin to rumble... So every morning, before her breakfast, she went to the stream, drank that warm refreshing water and voila, no more rabbit pellet poops. She was so excited that every day after that, she purposely “fell” into the stream like the other rabbits, got wet all over and took a nice drink. Forever more she realized that drinking water from her favorite stream would keep her belly healthy and allow her to live a long and happy life and poop.

TIP: As we all know, the “job” of our colon is to absorb water and eating sweets causes us to have little thirst. Take a warm glass of water every morning and you too can experience the joy of starting your day off just right.
