AROUND THE UNIVERSITY
SHAC Awarded PacificSource Grant
SHAC has received a $100,000 grant from PacficSource, the insurer for PSU’s student health insurance program, to pilot a peer-led wellbeing coaching initiative. The grant funds a 9-month staff position and two student wellbeing coaches. Funds will also be used to expand the Mind Spa, including the addition of virtual reality mindfulness. Pending a successful pilot year, PacificSource will extend funding over an additional four years at the same award of $100,000/year, for a total of $500,000 over five years. NEWS YOU CAN USE
Temporary Vacation Cap Extended through August 31
In July 2020, PSU temporarily extended the vacation cap for all employees who were eligible for vacation leave to increase flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic. This temporary increase, originally slated to expire on May 31, will be extended to August 31, 2021. In September, the temporary extension will expire and the cap will be restored to 250 hours for classified employees and 260 for unclassified employees. Questions about the temporary vacation cap can be sent to payroll@pdx.edu.
FROM THE VICE PROVOST
President Percy has granted us a floating Spring Day of paid leave that can be used by all employees who are regularly eligible for leave. This was a welcome piece of news, but also made me a little bit nervous. If I actually took a day off, how many emails would be crouching in my inbox waiting to pounce? Then a friend shared this Business Insider story: What your email inbox reveals about your personality While I am probably something between the "filer/deleter" and "saver", perhaps I'll push my comfort zone on my Spring Day and try my hand at being an "ignorer". What is your email personality?
