Dear Graduate School Community:

As many of you are aware, U.S. News & World Report published its new rankings this morning for “the Best Graduate Schools” in the U.S. I am excited to share that The University of Texas at Austin now has 55 graduate programs ranked in the top 10 — an overall increase from last year’s rankings of 49 programs. This places the university as the No. 4 public university for the number of programs in the top 10. Additionally, the university has five graduate programs ranked No. 1.

This ranking is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in graduate education at the university. I would like to thank you for your ongoing contributions to supporting graduate students — I am proud to see your programs getting the recognition they deserve.

Of course, any effort to distill academic quality into a ranking will be imperfect — and no ranking can fully reflect the impact that our programs have on our students — but I am glad that our reputation continues rise among our peers and the public. U.S. News & World Report’s graduate program rankings are among the most influential out there, and they contribute to our ability to recruit the best students, faculty and staff members and help position our graduate students to become leaders in academia and beyond.
