Dear Cathedral Family,
“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all of its parts are many, they form one body” - Corinthians 12:12
Of all the wonderful scripture quotes that describe Cathedral High School, this particular one does it best, in my humble opinion. St. Paul describes a scenario where a wide variety of parts make up one body. Indeed, the Cathedral family is comprised of an incredible and beautiful assortment of students from diverse backgrounds, thus fulfilling Moreau’s original vision for Holy Cross education:
"Notwithstanding differences of temperament and talent, inequality of means,
and differences of vocation and obedience, the one aim of the glory of God
and the salvation of souls inspires almost all the members and gives rise to
a oneness of effort that tends toward that more perfect union of hearts that
constitutes its bond and strength."
Indeed, this “oneness of effort” that occurs daily here on the Hill is inspired by our faith and traditions. This year, we welcome 1,133 students to our school for the 2022-2023 school year, including 292 members of the Class of 2026. These students come to us from 76 elementary schools to form one body united as the Irish family.
We take this wonderful opportunity to celebrate our differences and teach about our oneness very seriously. For example, our "WE C YOU" postcards give us a chance to recognize and affirm our fellow Cathedral family members for their unique and sometimes unseen contributions to this beautiful place every day.
A special effort is being made this year to model excellent communication skills and to do so by talking less and listening more. This intentional elevation of our capacity to listen and deliver excellence across the campus should be evident this year. To that end, we will conduct a short and concise survey of all parents and staff in October and then again in February. It is vital to our leadership team to have a pulse on our constituents so that we can lead in faith from a well-informed perspective.
Another example of enhancing our communication is the Meet the Teacher Night held last week. Our positive responses are very affirming, and we were pleased to offer this face-to-face opportunity for our parents to see what happens each day in their child’s school experience.
We are indeed one body united in our faith and our Cathedral traditions. As a reader of this message, you are a valued part of this united body. Thank you for your loyalty and encouragement. I am personally grateful every day to walk this journey with you in a spirit of joy, love, and faith!
Go Irish!
Humbly in your service,
