Celebrating President Jimmy Carter's Past, Present and Future
On Tuesday, May 23, Gateway85 CID will hold an event to honor President Jimmy Carter and the namesake of our primary artery, Jimmy Carter Boulevard. From 10 – 11:30 a.m. outside of Global Mall, our featured speakers will include former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, Jason Carter, Chair of The Carter Center, Gwinnett County Commission Chair Nicole Love Hendrickson, Norcross Mayor Craig Newton, local business leaders and prominent figures involved in the creation of Jimmy Carter Boulevard who will speak on the history of President Jimmy Carter, the boulevard and district, the rise of technology and manufacturing and the incredible international flavors of its booming restaurant and retail scene.
| |
The event kicks off a year-long enhancement program that is underway for Jimmy Carter Boulevard, including a banner program that will highlight President Carter’s contributions, community art classes that will result in a mural within the district, beautification efforts and more.
Immediately following the event, the CID will host an informal luncheon featuring international cuisine from amazing restaurants in the district. We are expecting a great turnout and hope you will attend.
Please RSVP here.

EV Charging Grant Application Update
Gateway85 CID is currently applying for a significant federal grant that will support the installation of EV Fast Chargers on properties that meet the criteria within the CID. Over the next decade, the major national push to convert our economy to clean energy will herald a shift to electric vehicles, and Georgia is leading the way in EV manufacturing and related supplies.
Our district meets the criteria for a significant deployment of EV charging infrastructure due to its location along a busy stretch of the I-85 corridor, its significant level of logistics, manufacturing and technology companies, and the presence of hundreds of small and minority-owned businesses. Our first opportunity to deploy EV charging across the CID is through a Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) federal grant. This grant opportunity is due May 30, so we are moving quickly to work with property owners along Jimmy Carter Boulevard and identify possible charging station locations.
Gateway85 is seeking a minimum of 10 property owners who meet the criteria for the federal grant and are willing to partner with us. If successful, the grant would provide millions of dollars in support of executing an EV infrastructure program, including the installation of four or more EV Fast Chargers per property as well as maintenance and operation for five years at no cost to the owner.
If your business is interested in participating, please contact Carolyn Bourdeaux at carolyn@gateway85.com by May 15.

Accessibility Increases - Sidewalk Project Update
Safety and transit are continued priorities of the CID, and progress continues on the Dawson Boulevard sidewalk project. Soon, this sidewalk will connect with the existing sidewalk starting at the DeKalb County line and connect the local apartment complexes along Dawson Boulevard to the businesses paralleling I-85 – all of which will continue to improve mobility and access.

The Southwest Gwinnett Chamber was formed at the same time as The City of Peachtree Corners out of a need to serve the professional community in the local southwestern corner of Gwinnett. The Chamber, which is sustained only through its membership, is proud of its 10 years of existence and ongoing engagement and programming for local professionals across industries.
“We’re always looking to engage with new initiatives, new concerns, new projects and events,” said Beth Coffey, Executive Director, Southwest Gwinnett Chamber.
Diversity is a major goal for the Southwest Gwinnet Chamber, and something it makes a concerted effort to promote. While “diversity” includes diversity in membership, it also means providing diversity in programming, initiatives, speakers and reach.
For example, the Southwest Gwinnett Chamber’s Make a Difference Team, which is the arm of the Chamber’s board dedicated to serving area nonprofits of all sizes, maintains a nonprofit roundtable to gather perspectives, foster discussion, and give them a chance to connect with businesses in mutual partnerships.
Gateway85 CID’s initiatives to improve the district’s infrastructure, beautification efforts and prosperity supports the chamber and its member businesses.
“Anything that strengthens the businesses in the area strengthens the chamber,” said Coffey. “The chamber and CID, have a symbiotic relationship. Businesses that benefit from one should benefit from the other,” she added.
When asked how businesses can best get involved with the Chamber, Coffey simply said: “Show up. Taking the time to be present physically will make you more approachable to other business connections. Be outwardly focused. Look out for ways you can help someone else, and they will be able to connect with you.”
