Carolyn and David were living in a 650 sq ft, one-bedroom condo in a 1929 building in the heart of Capitol Hill. It was a sweet and sunny space, but both Carolyn and David had taken up hobbies and hobbies almost always require more space. They could buy before selling but didn't want to spend more than $700,000.
Carolyn had begun composing and singing. Within just a year her song, Behind a Silent Door won, “Song of the Week” on KNXX. She didn't need a lot of space for her keyboard, but she wanted a separate space where she wouldn't disturb David or neighbors while singing. David had started painting canvases. He was also interested in home repair and setting up a workshop.
Both Carolyn and David wanted to start gardening and to install a barrel sauna. If you haven't heard of a barrel sauna, don't look them up or you will want one too.
They liked vintage styles like Craftsman and Mid-Century Modern. Also important was location. Carolyn enjoys live music and theater, so she wanted to be near light rail. David's job takes him all over town, so he wanted something not too far from I-5. They also wanted somewhere more peaceful than Capitol Hill but with a coffee shop or grocery store within walking distance. A serious fixer wouldn't have worked but a place they could fix up over time was an option.
Here are three houses we looked at (we looked at many more). See if you can figure out which one they chose. Click the button below to send me your pick.
