| Dear #RPSStrong Family,
I hope you all had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! My wife and I squared off against our boys for an epic game of Family Football. Let's just say my team came in second place :).
A few reminders for tonight: First, we have a School Board meeting this evening at 6 pm, which will be live-streamed, as always, on the RPS Facebook page. Among other things, we'll be discussing – and likely taking action on – the revised schedules I shared on Thursday.
Second, don't forget to tune into RPS Live! on Wednesday at 7 pm via our Facebook page, and RPS en Vivo on Thursday at 5:30 pm via the RPS en Español Facebook page.
Third, we have another round of Community Walkshops this week. For more info, just click here.
Finally, make sure to stop by the RPS Love Store to check out our new designs in honor of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month. Your purchase will help us raise money for RPS families in need and local racial justice non-profits.
With great appreciation,
Jason

- I want to send a HUGE shout out to Mrs. K. Evans for her dedication and hard work for the students at Boushall Middle School. She has organized events, provided transportation for students in need and has developed the most amazing rapport with families and members of the community. She has led fundraisers and done so much for Boushall under the radar. She doesn't just serve the 6th grade students that she teaches directly; she serves the entire student body, and the students love and appreciate her for that.
- Shout out to Alyson Davis in the Talent Office for her service to RPS!
- I just wanted to take a moment to shout out Ms. R. Sard, a 5th grade teacher at Broad Rock Elementary School, for her amazing work with the students. She has such a warm personality, and she works so hard to make sure her virtual lessons are consistent, organized and engaging. She has the utmost patience and is very kind and understanding with her students.
- Ms. TaNesiha Ford is the best principal. She is always encouraging us and showing us love. She tells us every day in Morning Meeting that she loves us.
- This is a shout out for Ms. Jacqueline Drye, assistant principal at Barack Obama ES. She goes above and beyond for not only the students of Barack Obama ES but all students in need. For several days, she has worked with middle and high school students to ensure their attendance in class. She is greatly appreciated.
- I'd like to shout out Mrs. Shirley Maxwell, office associate at T. C. Boushall Middle School. She tirelessly gives of herself and her time to make sure that all of our students have what they need and are treated with the utmost respect. She is able to communicate with our Spanish speaking families and tonight she stayed late so that our Back-To-School Night presentation could be translated! She goes above and beyond to ensure that our families have correct and updated information, no matter what their native language is! Thank you, Mrs. Maxwell!!!!!
- Shout out to the faculty and staff of Mary Scott Preschool for their commitment and dedication to serving their students by conducting weekly team building activities online to ensure that they are all on one accord. No child left behind, no teacher left behind. We Are All In This Together.
- I would love to shout out my hard-working 8th grade students at Thomas C. Boushall Middle. I wake up to 5-10 Google classroom notifications indicating they have redone an assignment or in need of assistance. What a great group of children to work with and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our bright young scholars.
- Shout out to Ms. Ingrid Nelson for her help, patience, understanding, and willingness to help office associates when we fumble the ball and miss the goal. You are appreciated.
- Shout out to Diamond in Technology Services for her hard work, dedication, patience and smile every time we call her with a technical difficulty. We appreciate you. Thank you for Leading with Love.
- Shout out to our principal, Dr. Johnnye Massenburg-Johnson, for her support and leadership, for her heartfelt and motivational words of encouragement that she gives us daily, and for always answering the calls after hours and on weekends. She is a true example of leading with love.
- Special shout out to Sholonda Bibbs, 1st year preschool teacher at Mary Scott, for going the extra mile and making drive-by home visits to assist parents and guardians with setting up tablets. Job well done, Ms. Bibbs!
- A big SHOUT OUT to the ataff at Summer Hill Preschool, Miles Jones, and Broad Rock for making the tablet drive-thru distribution run so smoothly. The families and students LOVED seeing you in person! Special thanks to our office associate, Adrienne Simms, for her leadership; to our partners from ExCELL for their daily support; and to the wonderful interpreters who served us all week. Thank you!
- Shout out to the awesome TJ administration, counselors, and teachers! Especially Mr. Tolliver, Mr. Latham, Mr. Henderson, and Ms. Feldmann.
- Mrs. Aja Jones at Mary Munford Elementary continues to be one of the best teachers I've ever seen!
- Here is a shout out for Mrs. Peyton at Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts for being an amazing 3rd grade teacher. Teaching virtually and learning at home have many challenges. However, Mrs. Peyton’s patience and compassion for her students combined with her mastery of teaching keeps them engaged and eager to learn during these challenging times. She is doing a great job and the kids are learning!
- I would like to shoutout Quintin Shipp, who works in the service desk! He helped me fix my computer and it meant the world to me after a Friday of classes!
- I want to give a shout out to the parents in Ms. Ragland's room. The support they have shown for their children and for the teachers has been amazing. Thank you for all that you are doing.
- I want to give a shout out to the best compliance coordinator around, Amber Bebbs at Swansboro. She has been a great help to her expectational educators by assisting with all the information needed to meet deadlines for virtual learning. Thanks for all you do.
- I want to also shout out Joanne Jones in the Talent Office for being a delight to communicate with about anything that we need assistance with. You are a great support!
- Shoutout to Mr. Howard for supervising bus operators and monitors during this pandemic.
