Special Heart Month Edition

February was Heart Month!

March 3, 2021
Heart Month special edition
At Children's Minnesota, our Cardiovascular team is always focused on being your resource for pediatric heart care. February was heart month and we're excited to bring you a special edition of the Clinician Digest that focuses on our cardiovascular program, people and patients.

Our team treats far more pediatric cardiovascular patients – from fetal detection and treatment through young-adult care – than any other program in the region. Treating more patients is associated with higher-quality care and better outcomes, especially in complex cases.

Since its inception in 1977, we have performed more than 12,000+ heart surgeries.
Annually:
  • 450+ heart surgeries
  • 500+ patients treated by cath lab
  • 11,000+ EKGs performed or interpreted
  • 12,000+ echoes performed or interpreted
  • 1,300+ fetal hearts scanned for heart abnormalities
The Heart of the Matter: Cardiac Implications of COVID-19 Infection In Kids
What happens after a child recovers from a COVID-19 infection? Are kids at increased risk of cardiac complications post-infection? How and when can kids safely return to sports? Join guest host, Dr. Gabi Hester, as she interviews pediatric cardiologist Dr. Chris Carter from the Children’s Heart Clinic about these questions and more.
With new episodes released every Friday, be sure to check the Talking Pediatrics podcast page weekly!
Children’s Minnesota receives heart transplant certification
Children’s Minnesota is proud to announce it has received certification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for its heart failure and heart transplant (HFHT) program. This program is the only exclusively pediatric heart transplant program in Minnesota, providing the most comprehensive pediatric cardiology services in the region.
Blake, above with Dr. Edens, was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a complex and rare congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped. He received his heart transplant at Children's Minnesota in 2019. Watch Blake's heart transplant story and read more on our blog.
