Message from the Acting Vice Provost & Dean

“How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” - Dr. Seuss

December. A month where some might be celebrating the end of a successful year (or semester) or time with friends and family. It could also be a month of exhaustion or hurt as we remember those we are missing. While I find myself carefully balancing both, I also am finding hope and promise.

I am hopeful because I have seen the amazing work you all do for our students, but also tremendous grace gifted. Promise as we are embarking on a new year, new leadership, and continued commitment to our students while prioritizing selfcare.

As we wrap up 2021, I hope you take pride in your accomplishments and find peace and renewal in yourselves. Sending gratitude for the amazing work you did on behalf of our students and well wishes as we conclude the semester, enter the holiday season, and celebrate a new year!

Housing Application Open

The Fall 2022/Winter 2023 Housing Application is open! Students are strongly encouraged to consider living on campus for at least 2 years. Making their Laker home in one of the many on campus apartment options allows for the next step to independence, but comes with the benefits of the support system the Housing team provides:  24-7 access to staff and resources when a student needs extra emotional, academic and social support. Students’ current housing deposit will carry over and is refundable through May 1, 2022. Students select their housing placement via their myHousing portal. The selection process begins November 19 and runs through March.
Apply to be a Resident Assistant

RA Recruitment

Resident Assistant (RA) recruitment season is underway and the evidence is clear – personal referrals are the most impactful influence on students considering the RA position. The Housing and Residence Life staff ask for help from faculty and staff in identifying and recommending students who would be a good addition to the Housing & Residence Life team and would benefit from the RA position.
The RA position is a full academic year commitment requiring a significant time commitment. RAs must possess strong time management, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal communication skills.

For further details about the RA position, visit the Resident Assistant website.
students playing in Flag Football Championship in Lubbers Stadium

Flag Football Championship

New this year, Recreation and Wellness held the Intramural Flag Football Championship at Lubbers stadium on October 28. After a hard fought regular season the Men's and CoRec teams started a win or go home playoff bracket that led to a championship game. The final two teams from each bracket got to play at Lubbers stadium!
Due to this event’s success, Recreation and Wellness will continue this fun event in years to come. Playing in Lubbers stadium created an exciting atmosphere for students, unlike any other IM Sports night before. 40 students participated in the championship games and around 50 fans attended between the two games.
