Day of Absence & Day of Presence (DOA/DOP)

Wednesday, April 6 & Friday, April 8

DOA/DOP is an annual event at the Evergreen State College Olympia Campus designed to address racism, allyship, and inclusion on campus and in our larger society. The two day event is comprised of several workshops, presentations, and film discussions. The 2016 theme is “Complexity of Belonging: Place, Identity and Authenticity.”
What's the Schedule?
Full session information is available through the on-line Schedule. Please note that some events require registration or tickets.

Who is Presenting/Facilitiating?
In addition to some of our amazing staff and faculty, we will also be hosting: Dalya Perez, Leticia Nieto, Ariel Luckey, Erin Jones, and founder of the Evergreen Tacoma campus, Dr.Maxine Mimms. DOA/DOP will conclude with a performance and discussion with NW activist and hip-hop artist Gabriel Teodros.

Who is it For?

DOA/DOP is for all students, staff, and faculty at Evergreen and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Whether you are a person who has actively and consistently been working within anti-oppression frameworks for years, or someone who is just starting to think about race, inclusion, and allyship, we believe everyone can find an access point to the discussions. Detailed information on how you can participate is available at: http://www.evergreen.edu/multicultural/day-of-absence-day-of-presence.htm.
DOA/DOP is a collaborative campus effort lead by First People's Multicultural Advising Services and made possible through the dedicated work of many students, faculty, and staff from across the college. Visit the First People's website to learn more about the office and its work to support Evergreen's committment to creating an inclusive community and a more socially just society.

What if Spring Quarter Doesn't Start the Way You'd Planned?

It happens sometimes: the program you thought would be perfect turns out to be not what you expected; you didn't get off that waitlist into the program you were sure you were going to get into; you were late to, or missed, the first class meeting and your faculty gave away your seat.
Your actions during the first few days of the quarter can make the difference between landing on your feet or being up the creek!
If you need help making a new plan, come to Academic Advising as soon as possible!
  • We will be taking drop-ins during Week One from 8 am to 5 pm. Please note that staffing may be limited from 8:00-9:00 am and during the noon hour.
If you have doubts about whether your program is right for you, or whether you can handle the workload, please talk with your faculty immediately!
  • They can give you a sense of how the material will flow and develop over the quarter, and the resources available to support you with the work.
If you're feeling like the program is basically OK but doesn't completely align with your interests, talk with your faculty and with Academic Advising!
  • They can talk with you about how to make the most of the experience and how the program can benefit you in ways you perhaps hadn't thought of.
If you're certain you need to change your registration, act fast!
  • Programs that have space often don't accept students after Wednesday or Thursday of Week One.
If you need to drop a program or class, act fast!
  • You need to drop your registration on-line by 4:00 pm on April 1st in order to receive a 100% refund.  Dropping during Week Two requires a paper form and you'll get a 50% tuition refund.  The Registration website has lots of excellent info to help you.
If you receive financial aid, please talk with a Financial Aid staff member before you change your registration!
