Tips for Grads: Creating opportunity

Career Development
Some people seem like they’re always in the right place at the right time. But what might seem like luck is often the result of planning and preparation. Want to make your own “luck”? Follow these simple tips:
Adopt a growth mindset. Stop focusing on the things you cannot control and shift your focus to those things you can. Then, consider what you can learn, do, or become in this current moment and act, even if it means taking a small step.
Update your materials. When an opportunity presents itself, don’t scramble. Keep your resume and LinkedIn profile updated with your current projects, education, and experience.
Network. Reach out to a professor, a mentor, or any other professional contact you haven’t spoken to in a while and see how they’re doing and what they’ve been up to. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice on your own career.
Seek professional development. With more webinars and workshops now online, it’s easier than ever to update your professional skills. Plus, you never know when a class could spark an interest that you didn’t know you had.
