Dear friend of SMRI,

Best wishes for the new year, from all of us at SMRI. While some of the challenges of last year persist, we are looking forward to the coming months of enthralling mathematical research, both on-site and online. A highlight in February will be a major online symposium, led by Fields medallist Sir Martin Hairer, which SMRI is presenting in collaboration with MATRIX.

The whole Australian mathematical community rejoiced this week to hear that Emeritus Professor Cheryl Praeger, of the University of Western Australia, has been made a Companion of the Order of Australia for her many achievements in maths research and lifelong service to the discipline. We are very grateful for her assistance to SMRI in particular, as a member of our Advisory Board. Congratulations, Cheryl!
