We Are Schulich Pride
On October 11th, the office of Alumni Relations hosted its first speed mentoring reception for the academic year. More than 250 alumni and students enjoyed an evening of conversations, advice, and relationship building.
Student Lana Mamaev (BBA '18) commented, "The speed mentoring event helped me get valuable advice, and I made great connections in the banking industry."
Isabella Bertani (BBA ’88, MBA ’98), partner at Collins Barrow LLP said, “It was inspiring to meet such a great group of students and hear about their hopes and aspirations for the future.” 
The success of the program would not be possible without the support of over 1,000 Schulich alumni mentors.

Make Sure Your Voice is Heard

We want to hear from you!  From every Schulich degree, every decade of graduation, every specialization, and every experience – even if you haven’t connected with the School in a while.  
In the coming weeks you will receive an email inviting you to participate in the Schulich Global Alumni Network Survey.  This confidential survey is designed to help your Alumni Relations Office better understand the needs and interests of all of Schulich’s alumni and guide your School as we enhance current alumni programs/services and develop new initiatives that are compelling and meaningful in the lives of Schulich alumni.  This Survey is core to the Alumni Engagement pillar for our Leading Change Campaign – Schulich’s boldest and most ambitious alumni engagement and fundraising campaign.

Schulich-Deloitte Cognitive Analytics and Visualization Lab

On October 2nd, Schulich School of Business and Deloitte, two global leaders in the field of business analytics, announced plans to create the Deloitte Cognitive Analytics and Visualization Lab, an innovative laboratory, supported by a leading data scientist, to foster advances in the visualization and interpretation of big data.

Schulich-CIBC Alumni Partnership

On October 23rd, Dean Horváth along with CIBC senior alumni and members of the Dean's International Advisory Council, Roman Dubczak (MBA '87) and Grant Rasmussen (MBA '93) hosted an alumni reception for all CIBC employees who are Schulich graduates.  More than 70 alumni registered for this inaugural event at the CIBC Commerce Court Building.  All enjoyed the opportunity to meet and network with their alumni colleagues.  

Schulich Alumni Heads West

This past month, Alumni gatherings were held in Vancouver (Oct 16), Calgary (Oct 17) and Edmonton (Oct 18).  Alumni attending these events enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with each other and to participate in a dynamic discussion with Dr. Dirk Matten, Professor of Strategy; Hewlett Packard Chair in Corporate Responsibility; Associate Dean Research; Contributing Author, Re-Imagining Capitalism. Prof. Matten spoke about Re-Imagining Capitalism and how we can re-think the model and understand the challenge. Special greetings were delivered by Executive-In-Residence, Pam Laycock (MBA '89). Thank you to our Schulich Alumni Chapter Presidents: Snow Zhao (IBBA '15) - Vancouver; Lindsay Reid (MBA '98)Nima Safaian (MBA '09) and Venkat Somasundaram (MBA '11) - Calgary; Christian Idicula (MBA '10) and Yesenia Leon (IMBA '13) - Edmonton.

Investors of tomorrow - YUSIF Stock Pitch

On October 17th, over 50 students and mentors gathered together at CIBC Mellon’s new office in anticipation of YUSIF’s first stock pitch of the year. The York University Student Investment Fund (YUSIF) is an endowment managed by undergraduate York students and supported by alumni and friends. The industry representatives were very impressed with the quality of their pitches and the students had an enjoyable time interacting with the representatives. YUSIF’s first stock pitch was a huge success!

In October, Schulich celebrated fall convocation for the Schulich 2017 class, along with the graduation of the Kellogg-Schulich EMBA class of 2017. Ron Mock (MBA '79), CEO of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, was awarded with an honorary doctorate at the EMBA convocation. Dr. Mock in his address to the class said, "You have earned your passports. I know that they can – and will – take you beyond anywhere that you can even imagine."

Congratulations to Maryam Nizam (EMBA '17) & Mellie Chow (EMBA '17) on winning 2nd place for their venture Revolving Kitchen, at the Schulich Startup Night on October 17th! Other amazing alumni finalists included Benjamin Futoriansky (BBA '16)Divy Thasarathan (BBA '16) and Devika Singh (BBA '13)
