Stand Up & Sing for Kids is on May 9! Will we see you there? |
While we work closely with county agencies - we rely on the support of the community to remain operational. Stand Up & Sing for Kids is our premier fundraising event! We’re excited to host the event at Goodman Community Center this year, in partnership with our Marquee Sponsor Pike Technologies, on May 9 from 5:30 to 9:30p.m.
The Sean Michael Dargan Band is going to kick things off in their signature pop rock style (think Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann and the Gin Blossoms) - to help us celebrate the resilience of the children and families we serve.Â
Here’s a sneak peek at what else you can expect:Â
|
The event is open to the public and we are still taking registrations on our website. All of the funds raised will help support local children and families impacted by trauma and adversity through our CASA, Oasis and Parent to Child programs.Â

Child Abuse Prevention Month Highlights |
|
|
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. If you haven’t been by our Pinwheels for Prevention display you still have a few days to check it out! The display is set up outside of our offices, on International Lane (close to the intersection of Darwin Road and International Lane). Each pinwheel represents three children served by Canopy Center and co-located Child Advocacy Center Safe Harbor - for a total of 780 children served in 2023!Â
If you can’t make it in person - check out this clip from Channel 3000, who came out to cover the display and walked through our space. Canopy Center Board Member Leigh Mills from WMTV15 also shared about the display, just this week! Thank you to both media partners for helping us extend our message.Â

Some other highlights:Â
đź’™ Wear Blue Day | April 5 đź’™
Canopy Center staff and supporters went blue on April 5 in a display of unity and awareness, and as a visible pledge of our dedication to ending child abuse and fostering a safer environment for all children.Â
đź’™ Together for Children Conference | April 8-10 đź’™
The CASA team and Parent to Child Director Emmy Lita attended the Greg & Mary Ann Renz Conference on Child Abuse & Neglect (Together for Children) in Wisconsin Dells. The conference brought together experts, practitioners and advocates to inform and discuss a range of topics from combating burnout in helping professions to preventing child maltreatment through policy; and further equipped our team with new information and skills that they can apply in their court advocacy and supervised visitation work.Â
đź’™ I Am For The Child Day | April 18 đź’™
Canopy Center staff and supporters joined CASA organizations from across the state visiting state representatives at the Capitol for “I Am For The Child Day.” It was a wonderful day of advocacy in which we had the opportunity to educate our representatives on the important work that CASA does and how we fit in the greater picture of social services and the court system.Â
Marathon County CASA Director Christy Keele recounted something she heard another director say: “When a CASA is working well on a team they can be the eyes and ears of the court and the hands and feet of the social services team.”Â
|
According to the most recent report from the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, there are 3.2 child victims of abuse and neglect per every 1,000 children in Wisconsin. Most of these victims are between the ages of 0-3. Further, the victimization of children continues to rise in Dane County year over year.Â
Help us continue our vital work by considering a donation to cover background check costs for our interns and volunteers. The cost of a background check is $50 and with almost 100 interns and volunteers - that adds up quickly!Â
Thank you for standing with us to protect children - whether you wore blue, watched the news or fund a background check - we appreciate you.
