PDX People Recognized for Extraordinary Efforts
Reaching out when someone needs a helping hand is a little trickier these days, but when passengers find themselves in less-than-ideal circumstances, our PDX People still come through with problem-solving skills and empathy. To recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary, the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards ceremony was held on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
We’re aware that some of you couldn’t access the live quarterly awards event due to a technical glitch   our apologies! You can watch the recording here or read about the winners on the PDX employee website

Share Your Thoughts, Win a Prize
During the PDX People Quarterly Awards we were introduced to Briana Thornton of Aesthete Tea, a QBIPOC owned local business. Briana shared with us the role of tea in self-care. Want to win a 1 ounce package of loose leaf tea from Aesthete Tea? Now's your chance!
Need some inspiration for your entry? Airline employee Scarlett shared with us on Twitter about incorporating gender neutral language at work:
PDX Next: C3 Restroom Closes Monday, Feb. 1 for Renovation
The restroom between Gates C3 and C5 closes on Monday, Feb. 1 for renovation. Part of an effort to update and upgrade all restrooms at PDX, the C3 restroom will reopen on Monday, Aug. 2.
Please note the adjacent all user restroom will also close intermittently between February and August to accommodate construction. The next closest open restrooms are in the south security ticket lobby (that restroom reopened on Jan. 29) and near Gate C9.
PDX Badge Expiring? Here's What You Should Know
The PDX Security Badging office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Badging appointments are available every weekday, but the office is operating on a reduced training schedule (50% capacity) in order to maintain social distancing and will not process standby customers.
If your badge is getting close to expiration, call the Badging Office at 503.460.4500 or 800.547.8411 ext. 4500 to schedule your training appointment. You can renew your badge at any time within the month it is set to expire – there’s no need to wait until the last day! Please note that your badge will deactivate at midnight on the expiration date and may not be used or displayed after that time. Although your badge won’t be active beyond the expiration date, all badge holders have 30 days after their badge expires to complete the renewal process without restarting the badge process.

Carbon Health Testing Pop-Up
If you come across a traveler looking to get tested before they fly, we have a new resource for them at PDX. Expanding on a successful pilot with Alaska Airlines, Carbon Health's pop-up tent on the upper roadway is available for travelers on any airline. Appointments are required for the service. Anyone interested in a travel clearance test should visit the Carbon Health website to learn more and schedule an appointment. Thanks for helping us spread the word.
As a reminder, face coverings are required at PDX, except for children under the age of 2 and people with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a face covering. Face coverings should cover your nose and mouth. Don’t worry, we can still see you smile underneath the mask! A new CDC order also requires masks at all U.S. airports and other forms of public transportation. As a result of this order, refusal to wear a mask violates federal law and may result in penalties.
Stay Safe: Winter Weather Tips
After a flurry of snow last week, it’s the perfect time for a winter weather safety reminder. Keep these tips in mind as cold weather continues:
• Stay informed of severe weather reports
• Drive safe by winterizing your vehicle: keep your gas tank full, check your tires and assemble a safety supply kit for your vehicle – don’t forget the ice scraper!
• Wear appropriate clothing for the current conditions and make sure you have proper footwear with good grip and tread.
• Take short steps and slow down...and always use a handrail when available.
