Rachel Melrose
Rachel Melrose Treats Passengers to Outstanding Customer Service
When Elephants Deli employee Rachel Melrose (she/her) encountered a traveler having a hard day, she made sure the guest received a serving of kindness along with a meal:
"I was having a very hard traveling experience and needed to find somewhere to eat and collect my thoughts. That’s when I stumbled upon Elephants Delicatessen and – wow – I was so happy I did!
Rachel was incredibly nice and so welcoming. She hooked me up with the most comforting tea and breakfast burrito. She went above and beyond to make my morning. She even gave me a complimentary cookie. This is what Portland is about – just great local businesses and great people. Thank you so much and I can’t wait to visit again."

What's New with PDX Next: Baggage Claim and Ticket Lobby
Baggage Claim: Elevated noise from concrete saw cutting and slab removal work continues on the north end of baggage claim through Wednesday, Aug. 23. Noise level monitoring will be in place.
Ticket Lobby: This week and next week from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., overhead protection will be installed above the Delta ticket counters. Work includes erecting towers, a deck and lighting under the deck, and installs will proceed south as each area is complete. This is part of ongoing work in the ticket lobby as workers connect the new roof to the existing one.
On the south end of the ticket lobby, also from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., crews will install plastic sheets above the canopy at Alaska and Spirit ticket counters to provide protection from dust and debris during ticket lobby demolition work. Crews will check in with airlines before works begins and will work around delayed flights as needed. This work continues through Thursday, Aug. 24.

Be Knowledgeable: Concourse E Door Closures
There’s a change coming soon to door access for Concourse E deplaning areas. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, access to doors E1220 and E1051 – near Gates E3 and E4 – will be limited to emergency responders and Port of Portland operations staff only. This change is due to a recent federal security directive. If you regularly use these doors, you should now use T2450 enplaning, near the D/E checkpoint  as your primary alternate route.
The new Taste of Oregon space
Wine Down with Taste of Oregon on Concourse C
Spread the word to friends and family flying through PDX – there's a new tasting room for Oregon wines on Concourse C! Brought to us by longtime concessions partner Made in Oregon, Taste of Oregon is also a specialty retail store selling Oregon beer and wine. Travelers can try a taste or a flight, then buy a bottle to take home. Fun insider fact: The mural above the space highlights the Eola Hills Legacy Estate Vineyard in the Willamette Valley.

PDX in Pictures
Recently, the Port of Portland teamed up with the Oregon Air National Guard (ORANG) for the USO golf tournament at Langdon Farms. As Fire Chief Rob Mathis shared, "Although we shot a respectable 7 under par in 100+ degree weather, we did not come close to winning. Still, it was a great time, and the tournament raised a lot of money for USO in support of our troops." In total, the event raised $108,000 – the most successful tournament yet!
