I am excited to announce the establishment of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs within the Graduate School’s portfolio at UT Austin. The new office will work to support the development and success of postdoctoral scholars across the University during their time on the Forty Acres.
Postdoctoral scholars, fellows and researchers are impactful contributors to the University’s mission. They drive innovation by bringing new techniques, ideas and solutions through research and by partnering with local communities, government and industry. Postdocs also advance the University’s teaching mission by working closely with undergraduate and graduate students and serving as team leaders and mentors.
The new Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will:
- Serve as the first touch point for postdocs and organize orientation with resources for funding, policies and benefits
- Advocate for the needs of postdocs in campus discussions and work with other offices to ensure access to resources
- Create opportunities to build community both among postdocs and with the larger University community
- Provide career and professional development programming to enhance postdocs’ research and career goals
- Administer university-wide communication with postdocs, including disseminating policies and resources
- Support the UT Postdoc Association to help develop community among current postdocs
