New Distinguished Speaker Series — College of Sciences

The College of Sciences is pleased to announce a new Distinguished Speaker Series to celebrate the diversity of contributors to outstanding scholarship in the natural and social sciences. The intention of the series is to promote diversity and inclusion among our faculty and students by bringing highly successful academicians from historically underrepresented backgrounds to UCF. Additional important goals of the series are to encourage UCF undergraduates from historically underrepresented backgrounds to continue their pursuits in the natural and social sciences, and to enrich graduate student professional development by providing opportunities to interact with diverse faculty.

Departments and schools are each invited to identify one speaker to visit UCF in either the spring or fall 2021 semester. At present, it is anticipated that a spring visit will be virtual; however, fall visits may be in person depending on pandemic safety concerns.

Travel costs and an honorarium of up to $1,000 per speaker will be paid by the College. Speakers are expected to give a general talk at the College level in their area of specialization, and be available to meet with faculty and students in the sponsoring unit and from across the College.

Please let Laurence Vonkalm know by December if you plan to invite a speaker in the spring. This will allow the marketing team time to prepare.

CAPTRUST Advising Sessions

CAPTRUST Financial Advisors, the independent advisor to the UCF voluntary 403(b) plan, will be hosting virtual one-on-one advising sessions for employees on November 12th and November 20th.

The attached flyer includes information on how to schedule an appointment.

If you cannot attend one of the virtual sessions, but still want or need further advice, the CAPTRUST Advice Desk is also available. Appointments can be made with the Advice Desk by visiting www.captrustadvice.com.
