For the first time in the history of the Pratt School of Engineering, every one of our graduate programs has ranked within the top 25 nationally in the U.S. News and World Report graduate school rankings. I could not be more proud to share this milestone with you. Rankings reflect the sustained excellence our students, faculty, and staff build day after day, and this achievement is a testament to the depth and quality of everything happening across our school. I am proud of this community and deeply grateful for all that you do to make moments like this possible.

Jungsang Kim, the Schiciano Family Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has received the Changjo Medal of the Order of Science and Technology Merit, the highest class of South Korea’s premier national honor for scientists and engineers. The Changjo Medal, whose name translates to “creation,” is the top of five classes of the Order of Science and Technology Merit and is considered comparable to the National Medal of Science in the United States.

As AI continues its rapid evolution and expansion throughout every corner of society, it remains crucial that we understand just what this technology will mean for the people using it. As more workers use chatbots to help them brainstorm ideas for creative work, a lingering question remains: Will AI make us more creative or less? Professor Emily Wenger asked that very question, and she has found that, on a large scale, using AI for creative endeavors will almost certainly lead to more homogenous work across society.

Created for professional master’s students seeking immersive work experiences, Duke Engineering's co-op program enables students to take on full-time industry roles during the summer or the academic year while remaining enrolled at Duke. Since its launch in fall 2024, the program has quickly become a defining feature of the Duke Engineering graduate experience.
