Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We want to recognize that research is vital to many undergraduate students' experiences at the University of Utah. With that said, a huge congratulations to the 140 students who earned an Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation for doing two semesters of research, presenting their findings, and publishing in the Range: Undergraduate Research Journal.

Congratulations to the 2024 Monson Prize Essay winner, Pablo Cruz-Ayala (pictured center). Every year, the Monson Essay Prize is awarded to an undergraduate who writes an outstanding paper on a subject having to do with social change. Pablo's paper, titled “Non-Objective and Subject Matter Dependent Visual Stimulus in Artwork: Investigating Accessible Art Therapies for Vulnerable Populations" aims to investigate "the impact of art-based interventions on heart rate variability (HRV) and emotional regulation among undocumented immigrant populations". Professor John Erickson (College of Fine Arts) served as Cruz-Ayala’s faculty mentor.
Thank you to our donors who have provided many years of funding for students across disciplines and allow us to provide awards like that of the Monson Essay Prize, and thank you to the Monson family for your continued support with this award. We are so grateful for your support of undergraduate research at the U. You can learn more about the Monson Essay Prize here.
