From Rachel:
After Zach and I graduated from Vanderbilt in 2012, we moved to New York City, where he attended New York Law School and I taught high school math in the Bronx through Teach for America while simultaneously earning a master's degree in education. Zach graduated law school in 2015 and began his career in corporate law at Fried Frank, while I continued my teaching career at a charter high school in Brooklyn. During an amazing 8 year run in our beloved NYC, Zach and I got married, adopted our adorable goldendoodle Daisy, and ate our way through the city.
In 2020, we had the crazy idea to move across the country to Los Angeles, and we could not be happier! We absolutely love the lifestyle LA has to offer, spending our weekends at the farmers market, the beach, golfing, and on the hiking trails. Zach now works as in-house counsel for TCW and I teach Algebra II and AP Calculus at Brentwood School. And while some things stay the same, a lot has changed! We welcomed our son Jonah in October of 2022, and our little family of four is thriving.
Over a decade later, we look back on our time at Hillel with so much fondness and gratitude. It was on the Hillel Programming Board that Zach and I really got to know each other as we planned various Hillel events. Hillel was our home away from home at Vanderbilt, where we spent many a Shabbat dinner and High Holidays. Some of our closest friendships to this day were formed at Hillel, and we deeply appreciate the relationship we still have with Hillel Executive Director Ari Dubin. Who knows, maybe our 10 month old baby boy will become a Commodore too and get to experience the same community and love for Vanderbilt Hillel that we did.
