Greetings,
I am excited to share that this year’s honoree at Hofstra University’s 29th Annual Gala is Donald Schaeffer, Chair of Hofstra’s Board of Trustees and member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Don’s leadership and generosity have guided Hofstra’s continued growth and ensured that future generations of students have the resources and opportunities to thrive. We are honored to recognize Don at this year’s gala and celebrate his profound contributions to Hofstra.
The gala, Hofstra’s largest scholarship fundraiser, will be held on May 1, 2025, starting with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. in the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
We hope you join us to celebrate Hofstra’s many achievements and 2025 honoree, Donald Schaeffer. For more information, click here.
Sincerely,
Susan Poser

Hofstra University welcomed 30 Baldwin High School students on campus for the annual Baldwin Shadow Day. The program was coordinated through the IDEALS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Leadership, Access, and Success) initiative in the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Studies (SONPA), giving sophomores and juniors the opportunity to explore two tracks of study, nursing and physician assistant studies (PA), offering immersive learning experiences and insight into the demands and rewards of these professions. For many students, the eye-opening day allowed them to see the wide range of opportunities available and encouraged them to seek the path that aligns with their passion and skills. Read more here.

Hofstra’s School of Health Sciences (SHS) has been awarded a NYC Public Schools and Bloomberg Philanthropies grant to serve as a higher education partner for the newly established Northwell School of Health Sciences (NSHS) in Woodside, NY. This partnership will offer high school students access to college-readiness activities, summer academies, peer mentoring, specially designed college courses, and support programs for teachers and parents. The goal is to introduce students to behavioral health careers at an early stage and provide them with the academic foundation and resources to successfully pursue higher education in the field. Hofstra students had an opportunity to visit the Emmy Award-nominated talk show “The Sherri Show” alongside Executive Director for Equity and Inclusion, Aisha Wilson-Carter. The experience derived from an alliance initiated by Wilson-Carter, between The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and the networking organization Black Women in TV & Film, headed by two-time, Emmy Award-winning producer Bryce-Loren Walker. This connection prioritizes building partnerships that address local challenges and uplift the surrounding community, while enhancing student success. Read more here.
