Dear Colleagues and Friends,
At the conclusion of another academic year, I am filled with immense gratitude for the dedication, creativity, and resilience that define the University of Notre Dame College of Engineering, and our engineering profession as a whole.
I am proud to share that for 20 consecutive years, Notre Dame Engineering has ranked among the nation’s top 25 private graduate engineering programs. This milestone is a testament to the caliber of our academic programs, research, and the dedication of our engineering community, including our talented technical and administrative staff.
This spring, 582 students earned degrees across our undergraduate and graduate programs. As they step out into the world, we are confident they will make transformative contributions as engineers, innovators, and leaders. In her inspirational address, renowned engineer and scholar Mary Cunningham Boyce—the Graduate School Commencement speaker and an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree recipient—echoed this sentiment, speaking of the need for “guiding principles” as graduates navigate a time of great change.
I also want to extend special recognition to this year’s University valedictorian, civil engineering student Martin Soros, whose engineering expertise and leadership were on full display in the building of St. Olaf’s Chapel, a Gothic-style chapel of snow and ice that brought together the campus community and captured national attention. We also celebrate seven students who were named recipients of prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) awards this academic year. In addition, we are proud to welcome seven new scholars to Notre Dame Engineering: six in the second cohort of the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellows program and the seventh as a Bioengineering & Life Sciences (BELS) Fellow.
As you read through the stories and updates below, I hope you’ll appreciate the vital, truly inspirational work taking place across our college and beyond, thanks to our outstanding alumni. I remain thankful for your continued support and engagement with Notre Dame Engineering.
With my best wishes,
