We hope you enjoyed your first month of your sophomore year and are excited for the month ahead! We know there is a lot going on during this time of year, but hopefully you've settled into a routine.

This edition of the Bear Bulletin includes some of the programs and events occurring this month and highlights some of the many on-campus resources available to support you.

Parent & Family Weekend is a time for you and your family to re-connect, show them more of WashU, and explore the St. Louis area.

If your family plans on joining us for Parent & Family Weekend, encourage them to view the schedule of events, register, purchase tickets & t-shirts, and plan their visit.

Is your family unable to come to Parent & Family Weekend? Join WashU faculty, staff, and fellow students at Bears Family Dinner on Friday, November 1 or Saturday, November 2! A $25 gift card and free transportation to the City Foundry will be provided. 

Flu shots are highly encouraged for all WashU students. Flu shot clinics at the Student Health Center will be held on November 7 and 8. COVID-19 booster shots will be available at the same appointment. Schedule an appointment online through the Student Portal.

If you have a bike on campus, we strongly recommend that you register your bike with WashU and display the registration shield on your bike in a visible manner.

It is also recommended that you use a Kryptonite U-lock to secure your bike, which is available for purchase at WUPD for $33. Email Sgt. Zohaib “Zack” Khan for more information on purchasing a bike lock.

Dining hours are adjusted during Fall Break. Regular hours of operation will resume on Wednesday, October 9.

2SA Hours are pop-up programs where 2SAs (Second-Year Student Associates) and sophomores take part in fun games and activities, build community with each other, and address academic and personal milestones. Join us at these October events!

It's a board game bash! Join your 2SAs and fellow sophomores for a little friendly competition and a lot of fun. We'll also have some delicious treats for you to enjoy while you play.

Celebrate autumn and the spooky season by decorating your own mini-pumpkin. You can also savor some tasty treats that will be sure to spark your creativity!

At the Intro to Strengths workshops, you’ll learn more about your Top 5 Strengths and how to apply them to be successful at WashU. You can also see how your Strengths can help you set goals, work with others, and so much more! Dinner will be provided.

Chat with faculty members, gather information about Arts & Sciences majors and minors, and learn about second majors and minors in other divisions at the Major-Minor Fair.

All performances take place in Edison Theatre. Kate Hamill's re-imagining of the Jane Austen classic is a brilliant comedic romp with an irreverent soul. Drop-in hours are available Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM in our main office, Danforth University Center (DUC), Suite 110. Students can schedule an appointment with a career coach to discuss questions, get feedback, and plan for success.

Therapy Assistance Online (TAO) is a free service for WashU students. It includes over 150 brief and effective educational sessions that cover common topics and skills related to mental health, wellness, and substance abuse.

Whether you are in the middle of a big research project or you are not sure where to start, WashU Libraries can help! Browse hundreds of Research Guides covering a multitude of subjects to get you on the right track.

The election is Tuesday, November 5! To vote in Missouri, you must register by Wednesday, October 9 and have acceptable photo ID. Registered St. Louis County voters can vote on campus on election day, and all students are welcome at Party at the Polls. We encourage you to check out more election information.

NEIGHBORHOOD SPOTLIGHT

The Grove is home to a growing vibrant business and entertainment district in St. Louis City. In the Grove, you can find a diverse mix of independently owned restaurants, retail stores and entertainment services. It is also a thriving center for the LGBTQIA+, artists, and cycling communities in the St. Louis area. When you are in The Grove, be sure to explore the local shops for unique boutiques and antiques.
