Join us for Wednesday night dinner in December! Wear your pajamas (kids and grownups alike) and join us for breakfast and advent wreath making for our homes. We’ll also read the Christmas Story!

Help Rejoice School of Ballet ensure that our 2024 Children's Ballet Showcase on Saturday, December 7th is a success! We have a set-up shift + 2 performance shifts. Volunteer roles for the performance shifts include walking dancers to and from the stage, assisting with tutus, supervising the photo booth, and managing the snack table! A minimum of 1 volunteer per task is needed, but 2 volunteers per task is ideal. If you are available for both performance shifts, you are more than welcome to sign up for the same task for both performances. | December 8The Alternative Christmas Gift Market offers a different way to give gifts to friends and family while also giving to those in need. Nineteen non-profit agencies and WPC missions have provided “shopping lists” that offer gifts to enhance the quality and faith-based nature of gift-giving this holiday season. You can “purchase” gifts from the participating groups in honor of family members and friends.

There will be a variety of jobs for all skill levels: set up, pricing, cupcake, cookie decorating, sign making and sign hanging, table decorating, bagging/storing of items, and transporting of items. Your help is needed. All money raised goes towards youth scholarships. Sign up here.

You can drop off your items at the church on Saturday, December 7, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. during our Bake Sale Prep Day, and we will separate/package them for you. OR you can bring items in packages on December 8 in the Parlor.

History of the Red Kettle
In 1891, Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was distraught because so many poor individuals in San Francisco were going hungry. During the holiday season, he resolved to provide a free Christmas dinner for the destitute and poverty-stricken. He only had one major hurdle to overcome -- funding the project.
Where would the money come from, he wondered. He lay awake nights, worrying, thinking, praying about how he could find the funds to fulfill his commitment of feeding 1,000 of the city's poorest individuals on Christmas Day. As he pondered the issue, his thoughts drifted back to his sailor days in Liverpool, England. He remembered how at Stage Landing, where the boats came in, there was a large, iron kettle called "Simpson's Pot" into which passers-by tossed a coin or two to help the poor.
The next day Captain McFee placed a similar pot at the Oakland Ferry Landing at the foot of Market Street. Beside the pot, he placed a sign that read, "Keep the Pot Boiling." He soon had the money to see that the needy people were properly fed at Christmas.
