BADGER CROPS UPDATE MEETINGS - EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION EXTENDED UNTIL NOVEMBER 1!

The annual Badger Crops and Soils Update meetings will be offered in three one-day, in-person sessions along with one virtual session December 3-6, 2024. The meetings will present the latest information on agronomic, pest, and nutrient management research coming out of the University of Wisconsin with a lens to on-farm application.

In-person sessions are in Eau Claire (Dec. 3), Arlington (Dec. 4), and Appleton (Dec. 5). The online session will be held via Zoom on Dec. 6. The in-person registration fee includes lunch. NITROGEN OPTIMIZATION PILOT PROGRAM (NOPP) GRANT APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN NOW!

The Commercial Nitrogen Optimization Pilot Program (NOPP) is designed to encourage agricultural producers to develop innovative approaches to optimize the application of commercial nitrogen for a duration of at least two growing seasons.

NOPP is a grant program funded by the State of Wisconsin, administered by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), and supported by the University of Wisconsin– Madison Department of Soil Science and Division of Extension. These grants aim to refine and enhance the understanding of methods that optimize commercial nitrogen applied to agricultural fields, helping to protect vital soil and water resources.

TRANSITIONING TO EID - WEBINAR ON OCTOBER 30

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension invites cattle producers and allied industry to a virtual meeting to discuss the transition to using electronic identification (EID) for disease traceability with Gretchen May, DVM, Veterinary Program Manager – Division of Animal Health, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Cattle producers will be able to ask questions about EID tags and the requirements for using them that go into effect on November 5, 2024. The rule change does not add any new classes of cattle that require official identification; it only changes the eartags that are considered official.

AMS USER GROUP MEET UP - NOVEMBER 12 - FREEDOM, WI

Joining the AMS User Group provides participants with opportunities to collaborate with peers, access expert guidance, contribute to research efforts, and improve farming practices, ultimately enhancing efficiency, productivity, and profitability on their farms. The AMS User Group is primarily tailored for dairy producers currently using Automatic Milking Systems (milking robots).

The next meet up is on Tuesday, November, 12 - 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
