Wonders & Worries Newsletter - July 2016
The Forgey Family
“Wonders & Worries helps the whole family cope together, turning something that could potentially be devastating into a life-giving process and we are truly grateful for every person who makes this gift possible.”
When Jenny Forgey became pregnant with her son in 2007, she began to experience unexplained health issues. Her husband, Justin, also suffered from a chronic health issue as well as epilepsy, but fortunately, his seizures had been under control for many years. In January 2016, however, Justin suffered one grand mal seizure that was witnessed by the children. Justin and Jenny realized at this point that they could no longer manage the emotional trauma their illnesses were causing the children.

Donor Spotlight:
Chris Cashion
“What appealed to me was the amazingly unique approach Wonders & Worries had for addressing the concerns of children and their families dealing with illness. It was an approach different than any other organization that I’ve heard of before.”
Chris Cashion, owner of Renewal by Andersen Window Replacement, was introduced to Wonders & Worries two years ago by his company’s President who is also a Wonders & Worries client. Chris felt moved to support Wonders & Worries, so he reached out to express an interest in helping any way he could. He recently joined the board and his company started giving back through the Millennium Society.

Therapeutic Tip
What I Did Over My Summer Vacation
At the beginning of every school year, there tends to be the assigned essay regarding “What I Did Over my Summer Vacation.” If the essay isn’t assigned, the topic still tends to be discussed either openly in a classroom or between classmates. For children and teens with a parent undergoing treatment for a serious illness, this assignment may feel insensitive. These children may not have had the summer that they expected with free time, vacations, trips to the zoo, or the opportunity to go see a movie, for examples. Summer vacation has a tendency to feel carefree and rejuvenating, but this simply doesn’t happen for some children.

What I Know About Cancer
With a new group, we often do an activity called “What I Know About Cancer / Questions I Have About Cancer,” to gauge their knowledge around their parent’s illness. This creates a great group discussion amongst the children and teens and shows our staff members where they need to fill in the knowledge gaps. Our last group came up with these facts and questions. Our favorite – a little girl asking if her dad’s radiation treatments would make him glow in the dark!
The Millennium Society was formed as a sustainable funding initiative to support the general operations of Wonders & Worries. To become a part of the Millennium Society, a donor must pledge to make a minimum annual donation of $1,000 for three years. Multi-year investments in the mission provide this sustainable funding and allow Wonders & Worries the ability to plan ahead and meet the needs of our program growth each year.
