FCNL Non-Violent Peaceforce in Ukraine, Sept. 21
|
On the International Day of Peace, join FCNL for an online event featuring experts from Nonviolent Peaceforce, an organization dedicated to protecting civilians in violent conflict through unarmed strategies. They will share insights into their work to promote unarmed civilian protection in Ukraine.
As Friends, we are called to always seek nonviolent solutions, even amid violence, and to help repair the wounds of war. During this conversation, we will learn and discuss tactics to advance peace—even during violent conflict—and how advocates can urge Congressional action to support peace in Ukraine.

World Quaker Day, Oct 1st
|
World Quaker Day – 1 October 2023 – is almost here. Friends everywhere will learn, pray and act, as we prepare to come together as a global family of Friends at the World Plenary Meeting in South Africa and online next year. The theme for both World Quaker Day and the World Plenary Meeting is Living the Spirit of Ubuntu: Responding with Hope to God’s Call to Cherish Creation and one-another. Learn more about Quakers and Ubuntu here. Many Quaker groups will hold special meetings on the theme, open to people from any country to join in with. You can also take part in World Quaker Day where ever you are, simply by learning about ubuntu, praying for the world family of Friends, and taking action.

FMW/FGC Rashid Darden to Host Writing Accessibility for MeetingsWorkshop,
TODAY at 1pm
|
Join Rashid Darden, member of Friends Meeting of Washington and FGC’s Associate Secretary for Communications & Outreach, for a workshop on how to make Quaker writing more accessible and welcoming to multiple audiences. This workshop will be held via Zoom. Is the language on our websites and in our literature accessible to those adults for whom English is not a first language? How about those adults with lower literacy rates, due to disabilities (diagnosed or undiagnosed) or lack of access to books in the home, or even a poor-quality education? As a novelist and as an educator with experience in literacy and reading comprehension, especially among those with undiagnosed learning disabilities, Rashid Darden will provide tools for Friends to use as they create and review literature for use in their meetings, such as websites, brochures, or even minutes.

Community Work Days begin around 9:30am and end around 4pm - with a Noonish break for fellowship and food. If you cannot come all day, that's okay too. Tasks are available for all ages (minors must be accompanied by an adult) and skill levels - including cleaning, yard work, basic repairs and maintenance, and securing facilities for the winter.
