Gaining strength
The University of Tulsa’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship has announced the first startups to receive funding from Hurricane Ventures: SkinCheck and AirWise Solutions. Hurricane Ventures is seeding early-stage companies founded by students, alumni, and faculty to positively impact the economy and further the mission of TU’s Collins College of Business. Launched this year, Hurricane Ventures has raised more than $2 million – well on its way to a $10 million goal.

Diversity in health care
Roger Kollock, associate professor of athletic training and director of TU’s Exercise & Sports Science Program, has received a $73,019 grant from Telligen Community Initiative to support Students Reaching Excellence Through Collaboration with Higher ED (STRETCHED). The program provides educational outreach to high school students to spark interest in health care careers and increase the number of practitioners from underrepresented groups. Kollock created STRETCHED to inspire young people and better serve the Tulsa community as a whole.

Meet Dean Airey
Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School Jennifer Airey has many irons in the fire in her efforts to achieve R1 institution status among the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. No matter if she’s working to expand graduate program offerings or recruit more doctoral students, the bottom line is ensuring that TU’s graduate student experience is one of the best in the country. On paper, Airey claims, a week in her life might not seem that interesting. It is the work that comes out of those meetings that make her job so fascinating.
