Irish American Heritage Month
In March we celebrate the contributions of Irish Americans in our nation’s history. March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday started in Ireland to recognize St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who brought Christianity to the country in the early days of the faith.

Seton Hall Pirates of Irish Persuasion (PIPE) club exists so all students interested in the Irish experience may explore, via participation in social, educational, and charitable activities, Irish and Irish American traditions and culture. Contact: pipe@shu.edu.

Ramadan
Ramadan begins the evening of March 22 following the sighting of the moon over Mecca. Lasting for 30 days, Ramadan continues through the evening of April 21. It is a month of fasting, worship, service, communal gathering, and spiritual development. Fasting in Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan is an opportunity for allies and upstanders to acknowledge the rich Muslim culture and history. The DEI Committee provides other opportunities to be mindful of Ramadan.

On March 14, the Muslim Student Association holds a session on Preparing for Ramadan as a Student. Some Muslim students may be experiencing the holiday without family for the first time. Be sure they are aware of our Muslim Students Association at MuslimStudentClub@shu.edu.
- Students and co-workers may be fasting. Have an alternative place to take a break during lunch, such as a library. Make campus celebrations not exclusively food centered. Have activities as an alternative focus. People fasting may have physical symptoms that make physical activity difficult. Have alternative ideas to physical activity for those who may need them.
-
It’s important for Muslims to have an appropriate, private space to pray. One such place is the non-denominational Prayer & Meditation Room located on the second floor of the University Center.
