Welcome Message from TGL Council Chair
Calling all TGL Community! It is time for our annual conference, and we couldn’t be more excited than to announce this year’s theme of Innovative Leadership: Into the Future. Join us on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for a collaborative day as we answer this question with keynote speaker Jackie Freiberg, hear from current government leaders on what they are doing now, and network with our own peers to gain ideas on how we can innovate and lead well into the future.
See you there!

Everyone, meet Dr. Jackie Freiberg!
Jackie is a Leadership, Change & Service Innovation Strategist who has been recognized as one of the "Top 30 Best Minds on Leadership", and is the best-selling author of "Do Something Now". She is thrilled to be joining us at this year’s TGL Conference and she plans to speak on how innovation is everyone’s job! She will lead us through provoking content that centers around one central theme: “What if everyone in our organization dared to bring ideas to life?” Her presentation will offer four unique strategies for embracing our “human only qualities” to lead, unlock innovation and enable all of us to better serve Tennessee.

Black Belt Corner – Congrats to our new black belt recipient, Pamela Leblanc!
In addition, the Black Belt Program participants are going strong and have completed 31 belts so far this year! There are several more belts awaiting review and approval by the committee. It is a great work in progress!
Are you struggling to think of ways to earn points? Here are a few great suggestions.
Internal Activities - Host a lunch & learn for your co-workers, not related to your normal duties, such as how to travel on a budget.
External Activities - Help with Hurricane Helene by coordinating & gathering bottled water or preparing a diaper drive. Perhaps work the registration desk for a Big Brothers/Sister Walk, participate in “The Extra Mile” walk for Down Syndrome, or help coach a faith-based basketball team.
Strategic Development - Attend a technical conference such as the National Council on Independent Living or attend a webinar hosted by many professional organizations in the state.
The Black Belt Committee is planning on hosting monthly Q&A sessions for Black Belt participants. If this is something you would be interested in joining monthly or just occasionally, please let us know. For more information, please contact shannon.jones@tn.gov or robin.beamon@tn.gov.
TGL Book Club – The TGL Book club next session will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 1:00pm – 2:00pm CST on a virtual platform. The meeting link will be posted soon. The committee will discuss a lesson on Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence.
