Critical Thinking Skills in the Accounting Curriculum |
Accounting professionals often work in an ambiguous and complex decision-making environment, requiring critical thinking skills and professional judgment. Employers are seeking out new hires who possess these abilities particularly as lower-level accounting tasks increasingly are outsourced or automated. But despite efforts of faculty, Accounting students may not be learning the critical thinking skills they need to be successful in their profession.
To address the need to more effectively develop students’ critical thinking skills, PSU Finance Professor Janet Hamilton, Accounting Professor Emeritus Ray Johnson and Senior Accounting Instructor John Eckroth recently published the paper “Critical Thinking Skills in the Accounting Curriculum” in the Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research.
