Stay Safe While Using Public Wi-Fi
|
As we travel and spend time with family, we sometimes find ourselves around public areas offering free Wi-Fi. Often times, threat actors use those networks to steal your information.
Here are some easy steps to stay safe while browsing the internet in public:
-
Verify the network you are connecting to, which could be as simple as asking the barista at your favorite coffee shop what the Wi-Fi name is. Threat actors may create new, similar-looking network names to trick you.
-
Avoid accessing critical information such as your bank account or entering payment card information. Consider using a virtual private network (VPN) once you are online to add a second layer of protection.
- Assume someone is monitoring your activity and ensure your passwords are unique and strong.
